Guys (& Gals ),
I have set Email verification for new accounts, however I have tested this and emails are not being automatically sent. I can however send email once I have manualy authorised the user through the Snitz Forum email interface no problem! I hope you can help me again!
Thanx

Go into the admin options > email server configuration and turn off restricted registration. |

Frutzle,
I do have one more question:
All new members that register on my forum are not members until the admin approves their pending.
When I do so in the admin options i get told that the registration mails are send to the members. Nothing is received by the members.
How do I need to fix this?
Thank you so much for your support. |

I've confirmed this to be a problem. I'll post a bug report about it.
I've verified, however, that you check the check box under the delete column for the members you want and then click the Approve Selected Pending Members link, at the Administrator Options box, the emails will be sent. |

If it works like 3.3.05 though -- they'll already have an active membership record and will get an "oops" message when they click on that link, won't they... Won't it tell them that their membership is already active or something to that effect?
BTW, I've had this problem in 3.3.05 for a couple months now and couldn't get it resolved. |

Well, now with a little more thinking about this, this may not be a bug at all. Approving Pending Members may be different than activating their accounts. If it were not, why the different wording?
So my reasoning is this, if you want to approve Pending Members, either approve them all or check the ones you want to approve and choose Approve Selected Members. Both these will send the emails for account validation.
Activate Account may be shortcut to just complete the approval process without sending the validation emails. Hmm, it would make sense IMHO.
Maybe Richard can confirm this is the way it was supposed to be... |

you are correct. When you "Activate" someone's account it's basically the same thing as if they had clicked on the link in the e-mail that they should have received. No other e-mails are sent. |

Sorry, I'm confused with these 2 new features.
When I have Restrict Registration - ON, the Email Validation must be turned - ON, right? So if he has Email Validation ON, why must the Restrict Registration be set to OFF as you have suggested?

These are two different features. Email Validation ensures the user registers with a valid email address and Restrict Registration allows you to accept the users application to become a member. If Restrict Registration is On, before the email message needed to validate your email address is sent, you need to Approve the members application. If you just want to have the email validated, without the need for an Admin to approve the member, you need to set Restrict Registration to off. Is it clear now?

Yes, thank you. Oh one more question ; When you say a valid email address, do you mean the actual email address given by the ISP and not those redirection email address or webbased address eg. xxxx@bigfoot.com or xxxx@hotmail.com?

A valid email address in this context is one where you can receive the email sent by the forum. Of course, an hotmail address can be used for that.
I remember seeing a mod that did not accept emails from hotmail and the like, but I cannot find it. Maybe search for it. |
