Just wanting to get the upgrade path straight in my head before I do it. I am going from 3.3.03 to 3.4

First you backup your database, since I am using SQL7 this is easy.
Then you delete your old forum, and copy the files from the ZIP.
Edit the connection string so that it points to your backup.
Run setup thru your browser and select upgrade, and then Update the Forums Count.

Ok, this sounds like from now on you will be using the backup database as the current one yeah? And you wont be using the original anymore, unless you want to go back to the old one.

Why edit the string to point to the backup? You can point it to the original and, if something goes bad, restore the backup...

It says to do that in the Instructions, thats why I am double checking you see. In previous upgrades you deleted everything apart from the config.asp file. You then put all the new files in, upload, then run setup and away you go. When I saw the instructions to point to the backup I was confused.

It's not really important. You can do it either way, as long as you create the backup immediately before upgrading.

Should I use the same config.asp or just setup the new one?

You need to setup the new config.asp file.

Well guess what? It didnt work. Setup.asp couldnt find the detabase, even tho I used the identical connection string! Whats up with that?

I even extracted the file again from the ZIP and typed everything exactly as the old one, made sure the comments were removed, and I still get the Code : 80004005

I know there probably isnt much I can do apart from verify that I have the right details so any other suggestions would be cool.

did you uncomment the correct strDBType, and are you 100% sure you used the correct strConnString (they're in a different order than in the 3.3.x config.asp)

Yeah, everything is correct, all the same details. I know the first time I uploaded the config.asp I did make a mistake with the database name, maybe its cached or something? I will restart IIS and see what happens.

Yay restarting IIS worked, the upgrade was fine apart from the missing PENDING_MEMBERS table, but all seems to be fine so far.

Sorry for scaring you!
