I got a question about the following text in readme.htm:

Upgrade Instructions
NOTE: It is recommended that you backup your database before you upgrade.
1. To upgrade your forum you will need to modify your connection string to point to your backup copy of the database you want upgrade.

Since I can't create a new database on the MySQL-server thats hosting my site (only allowed to have one database) I'm going to copy and rename my current forum tables as a backup. If I do that, then I would have to upload the new files to the server and run setup.asp WITHOUT changing the connection string. Right?

Are there some tables I can skip to backup since they haven't had any changes done to them (to save some time and space)?

I know I should write what version of the forum I'm running at the moment but that information has been lost in some mysterious way. My version was downloaded from here in august/september 2001.

I would look at this as a great time to figure out how to back up your database on a regular basis.

I think most of the tables were touched in one way or another.

Park your mouse over the snitz logo on the bottom r of your page. The popup will tell you the version of Snitz you have.

Nope. The field that holds the version number is lost (don't ask me how)

But is it true that I should upload all the files in the zip-file and then run setup.asp with the same connection string as I use today?

Yes that is true. DO you still have the zip file downloaded from Snitz? Maybe that will help ya find your version number. Or post a link to your forum, so one of us can have a look.

This is a 3.3.x version. DO you have an idea when it was installed?

Ok, since Snitz 3.3.03 was released on 2001-08-18 I think your forum is Snitz 3.3.03. Try upgrading from that version. If you want to play safe you can upgrade from 3.3.02. I don't know if there are meaningful differences from 3.3.02 to 3.3.03, cause I wasn't with Snitz then. Anyway it won't harm your tables. Upgrading from 3.3.02 if your version is 3.3.03 will give you some error messages (critical errors) on five columns of the archive tables, but don't worry about them.
You'll also likely to get a critical error about the MEMBERS_PENDING_TABLE. Don't worry about it either.
So, if you upgrade from 3.3.02 and get 6 critical errors, that will mean the upgrage went Ok.

Yeah it's Ok o run setup.asp. But its weird that the script is timing out... It shouldn't be.

Anyway, afraid I can't help with MySQL installation.

I've seen it. Maybe consider this one closed then. Better not post here again.
