And make sure you don't upload the database to the server...

Well, the one sure-fire way not to lose data is to back up that data.

I just upgraded yesterday, and it was smooth. My forum was up and running in minutes. Yay!!

Scott, it occurred to me that you might not have realized that during the upgrade process, you are NOT replacing the database. Rather, you are uploading new files that will continue to use the same database.

What if I have already installed some MODs to 3.3.05? Should just download my existing database and then overwrite all the 3.3.05 version files with the 3.4 ones? Or should I delete the 3.3.05 version files first and upload the 3.4 version files?

Thanks,

George

I dont think it will matter, you could delete the unused mod files to keep things tidy in your forum folder.

EDIT - you should still download and keep a backup of the database tho, as that cant hurt either

Seems cleaner to me to delete the 3.3.05 files and then upload the 3.4 files. Be sure to back up your database before running setup.asp.

I installed the 3.4 files in a new directory and am using a duplicate of my database so that I can play around and apply any mods. Once things seems to be working smoothly, I'll "do it for real" to my actual database and open up snitz 3.4 to the public.

Thanks guys for the advice. To play safe, I probably will do a dual forum in a new directory and test it before it goes on public.

You guys are awesome! Will come back for more adivce if I get some problem.

I have a problem with the new forum. When I tested the registration function, it returned the following message. Can anyone help out?

Thanks,

George

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Field 'FORUM_MEMBERS.M_SIG' cannot be a zero-length string.

/cpn_forum_1/register.asp, line 584

georgewang, I'm sorry to say this, but did you even bother to take the time to look back a page, or do a search? It doesn't take much time and you would've found your answer.
