Your revision is pretty good, and represents somewhat of an improvement over the current one.
Honestly, I think that the policy would require an extensive rewrite to meet stringent legal standards.
As an example of a "preamble," I'd suggest:
You (hererinafter referred to as the "user") are registering for the right to participate in the interactive discussion section of this web site (hereinafter referred to as the "forum"). By completing the registration process, you agree to furnish a unique name to use while participating in the forum (a "user name"), a password to access the forum, and a valid e-mail address to which you have access. You further acknowledge that the forum, due to its very nature, may and could contain material that you would consider objectionable or offensive. Such material could include some or all of the following: offensive images, graphics, or language. You further permit the moderator(s) of this forum to alter your contributions in any way they deem appropriate, including removing the contribution.
Finally, your revision contains some very minor grammar/punctuation errors:
quote: established policies; stated, implied or otherwise
should read:
established policies, stated, implied or otherwise
quote: ever, if the moderators of this forum find any inappropriate material; they may remove, edit, or modify the data at their discretion.
should read:
ever, if the moderators of this forum find any inappropriate material, they may remove, edit, or modify the data at their discretion.

i actually looked it up... instead of a semi-colon OR comma in the first "corrected" sentance, it should be a full colon.
the second correction is proper though.
gremlin, gladly use it for your site. basically i just felt the need to properly state what was already stated. i could grab a couple lawyer friends and actualy rework the entire thing into a proper policy... for now, i am but an average citizen.
nice site btw gremlin. i wish i had the know-how to integrate the bulletin board around my own design. im not extraordinarily happy with the default layout. got any tips? |

Almost everything can be done by changing just two files inc_top.asp and inc_footer.asp using those you can incorporate it into almost any site layout |

Since we're on this subject, I think a disclaimer that certain information such as your IP address are captured by the forum, and that admins do have full access to everything on the forum (profiles, posts, etc).

doktorklaus, first, I liked your revision--it was pretty easy to read. Second, I am confident of my corrections, but perhaps we will just have to disagree on this one. |

I'm a UK user and have always wondered why the age of 13 is used here. Is there a legal change at age 13 and which countries does it affect?

It affects all US sites, or sites hosted on US based servers.... |

Here's one more minor revision:
quote: This site may contain links to other web sites and files. We cannot, and do not guarantee that the content submitted to these forums will, or will not be found objectionable or offense to any user. However, if the moderators of this forum find any inappropriate material; they may remove, edit, or modify the data at their discretion.
The word "offense" should be "offensive". |

There was a (stoopid imho) law passed in the US a year or so ago called COPPA, the Child Online Privacy Protection Act I think is the full name. This law places certain requirements on website operators regarding the collection of any identifiable information on anyone 13 or under.
