I made these rules form my own forums and a couple people asked me if they could use them for theirs, so I guess there's a need for a standard set of rules.

This is what it'll look like:

  • Registation Rules:

    • Upon registration you must enter a valid email address. If I receive a returned email, your account will immediately be deleted, no questions asked.

  • Member Return Rules:

    • After one month of inactivity the member's account will be locked.

    • After two months the member's account won't be unlocked anymore. If no posts have been made by that member, the account will be deleted.

    • If you find your account locked and have not been inactive for two months or more you can e-mail me and I will unlock the account. Make sure to log in within 10 days after that or your account will be permanently locked or deleted.

  • Forum Behavior Rules:

    • Each member shall be treated with respect. Not showing respect will mean removal of the post.

    • Posts must be made in the most suitable forum. If a topic has been started in the wrong forum it will be moved. Frequent starting of topics in the wrong forum will mean deletion of those topics.

    • Posts that contain text or one or more images that others might find offensive must have a statement about it in bold red letters at the very top of the post. If the statement is missing and I get a complaint, the post will be removed.

    • Images inserted in posts may not be larger than 300 pixels high and wide. Larger images will be removed.

    • Use of images is to be done with care. In other words: Don't use images in every post, and leave them out when you use "reply with quote". The only exceptions to this rule are smilies.

    • Repeated misbehavoir will result in locking and possible deletion of the member account.

This is what you put in the topic to get the same look:

I hope some of you find this useful too.

You may post suggestions, but as this isn't a MOD but just some text, it's really easy for everyone to modify the rules so I probably won't do much with suggestions I hope you understand.

Nice guidelines, Roland. Plus, I just learned that you could nest lists with forum code! I never realized you could do that (even though I knew you could do it with HTML).

Yeah, I know what you mean. Part of the problem is that those people probably won't read the rules either...
I don't have a problem with people not sticking to the rules on my forum though... But then again, I have maybe 3 or 4 regulars and I myself don't really care about the rules on my own forums either

heh people never read, I have a rule thats highlighted at the top of my policy.asp about not creating user names like Gremlen555 etc and to just use their online Gaming name only ... I have to change about a dozen a month users whose names violate that rule.

you could add a check to register.asp for the username field that checks if it contains a certain value. If it does, tell them to read the darn policy That's what I'd do if I were you.
