I get this message when I try to find out what version I'm running on my site on the Main Forum Configuration-page:
Version info: [Couldn't read version info..]

Have I done something wrong in the setup?
How do I find the version number?

Just hover your mouse over the Powered By Link at the bottom of every page to get the version number.

The only way to find the version info now is by looking at the name of the ZIP file (containing the forum files) you downloaded.

Gremlin: I tried that but all I get is "Powerd by:"

FrutZle: I dont think I got the ZIP-file any more...

I think I downloaded my version about one year ago (I helped Richard awoidning to spread his passwords that was left in the config.asp :-).

Is 3.4 gone have any major changes to the DB or is it gone be easy to upgrade?

There are changes to the DB in 3.4 put for most people it should be a pretty painless exercise.

Can you try clicking on the Forum Vairables Information Link in the admin options and see what the following Variable contains

Application variables
/STRVERSION

Thats likely to be blank as thats where the other screens are supposed to get the info from.

If you can post a link to your forum I should be able to tell you what version it is.

Upgrade should not be a problem.

STRVERSION doesn't appear so I think my table with Application variables is missing that field (couldn't find it when looking at the table).

Is this version problem I have gone cause me problems when upgrading to 3.4?

it will have quite a few database changes as several new features have been added. But I upgraded my forums in less than 10 minutes (I had some major server caching problems, otherwise I'd have been done in 10 minutes).

Gremlin: Sorry, I didn't see the addition to your reply.

FrutZle: The reason for my concern is that when I did the last upgrade about a year ago I lost all topics (about 10.000 ) and didn't have enough money to pay for a backup .
Now I do have enough cash to pay for a backup if anything goes wrong but the visitors on my site would kill me

Your forum is a 3.3.x version if you downloaded it a year ago then likely to be the first release of 3.3.

And he is using a MySQL database, because the missing version only happens with a MySQL database. Because of a bug in the installation of the database, the strversion wasn't set. Running the setup.asp and doing an upgrade, select the highest version to upgrade from, it will fix that problem. Sure you will get some errors saying the fields exist but it won't do anything to your database except update the strversion.
