Hello,
I think I have messed up my installation of the Poll mod. I am running forum version 3.3.05 and downloaded the Poll mod and tried to install it. Here is what I did: Extracted the dbs file to my forum folder. Ran the mod setup from my admin account - received no errors at all. Modified the files according to the corresponding files in the Poll mod zip archive. <---(this is where I think I messed up)
When finished modifying, I extracted the rest of the files to my forum folder.
Now, when I want to add a poll, I get to the page where you write the question and possible answers to your poll. When I click on "post new topic" I get an error message like this: --- Technical Information (for support personnel)
Error Type: Microsoft JET Database Engine (0x80040E14) Number of query values and destination fields are not the same. /forums/post_info.asp, line 754
Browser Type: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Page: POST 459 bytes to /forums/post_info.asp
POST Data: poll=1&ARCHIVE=&Method_Type=Topic&Type=&REPLY_ID=&TOPIC_ID=&FORUM_ID=2&CAT_ID=3&Author=&Mod_ID=&Cat_Title=+&FORUM_Title=Forum+%231&Topic_Title=+&M=&Refer=http%3A%2F%2Fserver01%2Fforums%2Fforum.asp%3FF . . . ---
Line 754 (according to Notepad) in post_info.asp: " if txtMessage = " " then" (this is the same in my file as in the file from the zip archive)
I am quite sure that I have messed up somewhere when copying and pasting the lines from one file to the other, but is there an easy way of finding out what I did wrong ?
Other info that might be useful: I use Access 2000 mdb-file. The zip archive was from October 4 2001 (according to readme file) - it did not help downloading the December 11 version and rerunning the dbs setup.
Any help appreciated...
Regards, Simon

Well, you can continue to use the old version as long as you don't mind having to upgrade it to the latest version when you run into a few bugs with it.
First off, you should be using the latest version. That's the wisest thing to do. Although it's not related to your error.
Secondly, when you have finished installing the latest poll mod version on your forum, and if you still have the error, you can post a link to a txt version of your post_info.asp file.

Are you using the latest version of the poll mod? Or are you still using the October version?

I haven't touched anything since I got the error message, so I am still running the October version. The idea was to get that running, and then upgrade (the upgrade process didn't look that hard )

Well, I don't want to fix something that the upgrade might already fix.
And I don't want to fix it and then you might break it during the upgrade and then I will have to fix it again.
See what I mean? |

Davio, I perfectly understand your point - and respect it.
Here is what I have tried to fix the problem: 1) Got the updated (December version) version of the Poll Mod. 2) Copied the dbs file to my forum folder, ran the file from Mod Setup in admin menu - it gave a lot of errors, just like expected since the tables already existed. 3) Used my backup files (from before installing Poll Mod the first time) so I had a "clean set" of files to modify. 4) Modified the files according to the files from the Poll Mod zip archive. 5) Copied the modified files to my forum folder, including the rest of the files from the zip archive. 6) Logged on as Admin, verified Poll Mod configuration. 7) Created a new poll in my forum. 8) When I press "Post new topic" button, I get the error message.

I was very careful modifying the files, and this time I used the Araneae editor (as opposed to Notepad), so I am almost certain that I did everything right, but apparently I must have missed something.
Any ideas on what can be done to fix it ?

Good thing you noticed that. Made me run through that specific file *once* again. I must have missed something earlier, because it seems to work now.
I apologize for not noticing earlier.

No problem. Glad you got it fixed and working. Look out for the new update of the poll mod in a couple of weeks. |
