I've installed the Hide Email mod from the Snitz Exchange (not easy since there's no documentation whatsoever) and came across a problem.
If I click the 'Hide Email:' option in my profile to 'YES', it doesn't 'stick'. What I mean is, it doesn't hide the email address after submitting the new profile and when I re-edit my profile, it's still on 'NO'.
Can anybody help me with this please?
I'm presuming it's related to either pop_profile or inc_profile.asp and i've also got the email password mod installed.

the files in that archive are not the "Hide Email MOD". Those files were files that I modified based on the "Hide Email MOD" and provided them for download. I didn't write that MOD, just provided already modified files for download. That is why there is no documentation included with it. |

Ok, that's fair enough. Seeing as it's such a useful mod (which I presume will be included in 3.4?) i'm surprised that nobody has properly packaged and documented it.
Anyway, any idea why the 'YES' button isn't staying on?

I don’t know if this helps but other people have had the same experience as you, well at least one other, the last post in this topic http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31044 is describing the same quirk as you have seen, yet the mod still worked fine..is the mod still working on your forum despite this?

No, I tried clicking the 'YES' button and then logged out, logged in as a different user, accessed my profile of the first account and when clicking on 'Send **** an email' I was presented with the usual pop-up containing the email address and a box to type the message in.
So no, it's not working.

No, this mod isn't included in v3.4
What we have in v3.4 is different. No one's e-mail address is ever shown in the HTML of the page, as long as you have e-mail turned on in the forum. If you have it turned off, then the e-mail address is shown on the page where it has a link that will open in your e-mail client.
We have put in a feature that allows a user to select whether or not they wish to receive e-mail from other forum users. If they choose no, then no one will be able to see their e-mail address (if you have e-mail turned off), or send them e-mail.
I remember the fix for the problem you are having, I just need to find the files I have that had the code in it. I'll post it here when I find it.

Thanks Richard. You've changed the radio buttons to a drop-down box? Unfortunately, it still doesn't stick. I tried changing it to 'YES' but when I went back into the profile it was set as no, and I could still email the member.

Ah.. I see the problem. You didn't uncomment the 2 lines in the pop_profile.asp file that will allow the database to be updated.
Take a look at lines # 941 & 1170 , you need to uncomment those 2 lines. |

The line in pop_profile.txt that UPDATES the HIDE_EMAIL field is commented out.

I think ye both cracked it!
Touch wood, it looks like everything about the mod is working correctly now. I've noticed that a lot of new members over the last 24 hours have hidden their email address so it must work upon registering.
Thanks!
This would be a highly useful mod if it was repackaged and documented by the way... a bit of a hidden gem for the Snitz Exchange!
