Hello,
I am wondering if there is any useful links/topics/documents for Korean language Snitz setup. I have been reading for the Japanese version but just got confused.
What are the basic steps to install language pack to v4?
Do I have to change
config.asp
inc_language.asp
LangMODS.asp
Lang????.asp (Is there a korean version?)
What files do I have to translate to start with if there is nothing available? Anyone doing something here?

Hi, Blue-tech,
Don't believe there is any Hangul language package exists.
You can see all relevant and current discussions on Snitz V4.x development, language packs and status etc. at:

If you are to develop/translate/localize Hangul package, you should have Lang1033.asp from the latest V4b03003 core package and 3 button image files for Go, Login, Logout....which need to be localized. I believe the source graphic file is not a flat file but multilayered so that text can be translated/localized. Korean/Hangule LCID is 1042. As a guideline for Snitz language package, you would be using Lang1042 for Hangul language pack when you translate Lang1033.asp.
Once this is done, you are recommended to send a Hangul language pack (Lang1042.asp) to Bozden for V4b3003 compatibility testing so that your lang1042.asp is fully V4.x compatible.
Once you have this done, you can deploy V4b03004 (V4b03003 core software and allpostV4b03003patches which contains updated/current security patches, and both makes it so-called V4b03.004). They contain Lang1033.asp (English_US), lang1055.asp (Turkish) with 3 associated image files for each language.
You can upload Lang1042.asp with 3 image files along with the above.
Then, you set your config.asp to assign your database and language packs. (Config.asp file contains instructions on how to do this).
Also, in LangMODS.asp, you can add Lang1042.asp.
After all these done, you follow a normal Forum setup process.... which you can see in readme file for V3.3.05...
(Although it's mixed with Japanese, this general installation procedure is explained at :

where you can get a general idea on how to proceed installing and deploying a multilingual V4.x ...)

Thnak you very much for the quick responses.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
1. change the 4 logo files into Korean Version.
2. translate lang1033.asp's strings into Korean and name the file as lang1042.asp
3. Send the file to Bozden for compatibility test
4. deply it as v4b3004 with security patches
Right?
Hmm.
If the only thing that should be done is translating the lang1033.asp and a few graphic files, I can start the work soon. I can refer the Japanese version to compare if I am on the right track. (I can read and write the Japanese
 )
How Can I have a workgroup for Korean Language pack?
I can start myself but need help from other guys who want to have the Korean version.(including moderators)
I will look into the files to estimate the time line...

Just start a new workgroup. We are here to help you . You may or may not find other Korean friends around - it depends. You may like to sort the members page by country and send some private messages to call them to the group. It will be best if there is one translator and some testers/checkers around.
First search the two related forums (Dev Internationalization and Dev Internationalization Archives) first. Post your questions as separate topics, not to the WORKGROUP: Korean topic. Dedicate that topic to talk with other workgroup members and to release some status/link info etc.
Beware, there are around 2000 phrases and it will take about a full week.

Hi Blue-Tech,
If you can read Japanese, then, perhaps you can go to i2AsiaForum
and download a Japanese language file...Lang1041.asp, which has been tested for V4b03003 compatibility. There are two flavours, one is SHIFT-JIS and other is UTF8 unicode format, but you can use open one of them in IE and open source code and save it as 1042 Korean/Hangul codepage/charset format, and use either NotePAD2000/2002 or other Korean editor to replace Japanese texts into Korean.... basically you would be doing the same with 1033...
Just an idea.

Has anything further been done to create a Korean LangPack? I have a group of Korean people that have an interest in a Korean Snitz forum. If one is already available (I searched and did not find one and I looked on Bozden's International area and did not find one) please let me know.

I think they are kind of shy for this wild bunch.
They are looking for a private forum to discuss religious and other issues. The closest I've seen in the langpacks is chinese. I do believe most speak English but I thought they might feel more comfortable in their native lang.
Doesn't seem like more langpacks are being added lately. Is it because of the lack of people with that lang and/or the difficulty of translating to create a new langpack?
This will be highest rated forum (beating itself, again!) when people can use multiple langs to communicate. Very interesting and very aggressive. Looks like there is no limit for Snitz!

I know that it is difficult (and not wise) to give an availability date, but I was wondering if you could give a ball park one, plus or minus a month. Are you talking a week, a month, a year, 5 years before V4b04 is ready.
Appreciate any feedback possible. Most likely I will set them up with the v3.4.03 version.

It is on the test now. I also plan some major moifications to get rid of the problems I faced during tests. In the meantime, translation updates for the existing language packs will be made. After that, it will be distributed in a closed environment (dev-team) for other tests, then it will be made public.
Not very near and not very far...
