This mod is a little different than the one by Da_Stimulator.
I like his alot But I took a different approach with this one.
This mod works with v3.1 sr3 Final.
It will also work with 3.1 Final - 3.1 sr2 but when you go to delete an announcement you will have to type in your Username/Password each time. This can also be fixed by editing the file pop_announce_delete.asp and replacing strUniqueID with strCookieURL (there are 2 instances of it).
Please read the readme.txt before installing
comments, questions, problems can be posted in this topic.
DEMO: None right now.

Richard (nice name by the way) :-)
I do not see any announcements - am I looking in the wrong places? Update - just found it - thought that link would take me to the cfm homepage :-)
Also I really like the entry under the login box to let folks know they need to register to post and then the thanks for registering. Also noticed the entry down in the stats part about how many users have made posts out of total users.
Do you mind sharing how you accomplish those things?
Thanks.

Ok, I loaded it and it looks wonderful.. just a few suggestions.. the little letter graphic thats put on the main screen is nice but it should have a topic header like "Current announcements".. and you are only showing the last annoucement so when you click on that announcement it shoudl only show that one with another tag for "All announcements"... Other then that, its great.

Hopper,
On your first point... No, it shouldn't... Maybe a different Icon, but that's it.
On your second point... No, it shouldn't...
The way it looks and functions is the way I wanted it. I'm sorry, this isn't a work in progress. I plan no cosmetic or functional changes. I think that it fits in with the rest of the layout of the forum very nicely, and see no reason to change it.
You are free to modify it any way you like. <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> |

Hopper,
I am considering this more as an addon than a change, as I still like the way it is now.
As per your first suggestion, here it is...
I'm not including it in the main .zip file but as a separate download for anyone who wants it.
Here is what it looks like:
Here is the file: http://www11.ewebcity.com/dssdbs/files/inc_announce.zip
Just overwrite the existing inc_announce.asp with the one in the .zip file. |

Richard,
Excellent mod <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>. I would like to make one suggestion, however.
Suppose the admin needs to add several announcements at one time, Announcement A, Announcement B, and Announcement C. Since only the most recent one shows (Announcement C), a visitor may not be interested in that particular announcement and never click through to view_announcements.asp and see the others.
Perhaps a different icon could be used to signify the are new announcements since the user last visited, similar to the purple folder concept for forums. Maybe an empty mail slot for no new announcements and the full mail slot for new or edited ones.

Yes, I had thought of doing something like that where it would change the icon if it was new or old, I have been working on this off and on for about a month and decided not to add it. I was also going to have it where you could have specific Announcements for specific Forums, but decided not to do that either. I was trying to keep it as simple as possible.
For your problem with adding more than one announcement at a time.
You could add say three announcements with specific subjects and then a last one that says "New announcements added, please click here to read"
I kept it pretty modular, instead of trying to cram everything into a couple of files so it is very easy to modify it. Like the part that displays the announcement link is in the file inc_announce.asp and to modify the way it looks only involves modifying that one file. |

Download the file that is in the first message in this topic. Follow the directions that are included to install it.
then just download the file that is in the message where that picture is and overwrite the inc_announce.asp that comes with the mod. |

that happens when the announcement has expired. Can you check and see if it's expired? |
