INSTALLATION:
First, extract the dbs_email_val.asp file to your forum folder.
Go to MOD Setup in your Admin options and select 'Email Validation Mod' from the dropdown box.
This will install the necessary database fields needed for the mod.

This is where my problem begins and hopefully ends.. I did exactly as your readme text file said. I always code mods by hand and I only use DAVIO mods.
My forums are at... www.fastclan.com/forum/default.asp
I am running the latest version, 3.3.05

I coded the email validation mod into each file by hand, then I did as the readme said, and uploaded the (dbs_email_val) file to the forum folder. Then I logged into the forums and went into the admin options screen. I accessed the *MOD SETUP* screen and there was no dropdown of *email validation mod* the space was blank.

I'm running this on SQL Server. I've not had any other problems so far with these forums. In fact, the forum still works, but for some reason the database is not seeing the mod.

If it is not showing in the select box, it probably means the dbs_email_val.asp file is not in your forum folder. Make sure you haven't changed the file name of the dbs file. It has to be dbs_email_val.asp.

Have you installed other mods before and they show up ok in the select box?

Update:

Davio my friend, Good to see and speak with you again.

I have installed some of your mods before yes, there are currently two on this server. both your's. Email Validation and Polls.

Polls worked flawlessly. and I'm more than sure that Email Validation has a EBKAC. (error between keyboard and chair)

Ok.. now for the update.

I've since deleted and reinstalled a saved copy of the forums. Since doing this, I was able to make the dbs work correctly and installed the tables for the email validation mod.

Then.. I was getting a pop profile error, as no members pages would display.
So I went to start tracking down that in the pop profile.asp file. I found the problem *I missed one line of code*... and fixed that issue.

Now, I'm going to test once again, to see if the email validation works..

btw bro, Thank you for the quick reply!

Do you have the Email Validation option On? Do you have your Email Setting On?
What was the message you got after you registered? Did it say check your email to complete your registration? Or did it say you may now begin posting using your username and password?

Nope I sure didn't.. I turned that on, and the forums acted as they were supposed to....

Except, it's not sending out the validation email.. ARGH!!

I know the email server config, and it is correct, I'm not sure why it's not working yet.. hmm

Email Password, E-mail a member, Send topic to a friend and Pending user do not work.

Basically I have a breakdown in the email system.

There is a firewall up, and I am hoping that is the main culprit *only problem hopefully*...

Will try again tommorrow.. (server operator has since gone to bed)

Thank you Davio for all help so far!

Another Update:

I turned off Email Validation in the Admin Email Configuration area of my forums. Then tried sending myself Lost Password email and email topic and email user. Once again, None worked.

Must be something to do with the firewall... Must be.

FINAL UPDATE!!:

now I can close this topic!

The email validation mod works flawlessly.

Ya know, Davio's mod's work, as long as peeps take the time to fully copy all data from his mod to their forum asp files. Since reading here, I've learned ALOT. Mostly though, I've learned that if a mod doesn't work, 9 times outta 10 it's my error of missing some text in one or more of the asp files.

I had missed one line of code this time, but fixed it on my own accord without having to ask for assistance this time!! WOOT!!

The emails were not being sent because of the firewall restrictions.. This has since been rectified and email validation works flawlessly!

Thank you Davio for another AWESOME mod! And for having the patience to help so many of us whom need it.
