I would like to add a midi file to my message board ... however, I only want it to play when the board is first pulled up, if that'd be possible ... not as each topic is accessed.
My guess is, I want to edit the default.asp file. Is that correct?
Next question is: Where, and how, do I place my code? Being fairly unfamiliar with ASP, I'm not certain of the meaning of things like End if, <%, etc. How would I tag such a line? I know the standard html ... it's just adapting it to the forum. I tried, and failed, a couple of times.

That is correct. You would want to add it to default.asp
I would suggest adding a cookie entry to determine whether it's the first time the user is there or not.
BTW, let me know where your board is so I know where NOT to go. MIDI files that play automatically is one of my major pet peeves and guarantees me never to go back to that site again.

You got that right, Dave! Luckily, you can hit the stop button on the browser and that takes care of it.
What kind of sound are you talking about?

Well, sorry to disappoint you guys, but the folks who frequent my place - pre-Snitz - said it gave them a "warm & fuzzy feeling." To each his own!
Anyway ... be that as it may, where on default.asp should this type of code be placed so as not to interfere with anything?

A melodic Gaelic-sounding piece called "40" - very soothing ... yeah, "warm & fuzzy"!

Sorry. I didn't mean to bust on you so bad. You're right, to each his own!

I also like the addition of music, but realize many don't so I've used a midi jukebox in some of my sites that would allow people to listen to music if they wanted, but defaulted with autoplay off. I think most people would be ok with music if there was an easy way to shut it off. There are several music scripts available at scripting sites and even some basic code you could ad if you don't want anything fancy.

Well, I got it ...
I just added my embed code right after the includes call-in at the beginning of the page ... Not because I knew what I was doing, but because I was following the format on the page, I surrounded it with %> tags ... what do those mean, anyway?
Thanks, folks ... workin' fine!

the addition of music is fine as long as you allow the visitor an EASY option to turn it off... I dislike midi's playing on sites immensely too, besides it's so pre 2000s internetish, get with the times man
