Ok I am going to take a shot it. I just had these problems. So here goes.

1) Did you convert the database that you downloaded with the script to a 2000 database?
2) Did you upload the dbs_avatar.asp file and run it before you uploaded the file changes that needed to be done?

If you didn't convert the database then you need to switch connstrings in the config.asp and use the 97 string.

If you uploaded the changed files before you setup the mod then replace those files with the original ones that came with the download. Upload the dbs_avatar.asp run it through your admin screen then upload the changed files.

Let me know if this helped.
