I want to set up an online directory and forum for a college church group but need to have more member info that is currently in Snitz. Is there any good MOD out there that can show my how to add a lot of custom info to the Members Table? Examples would be street address, grad year, degree, children, etc.

If anyone knows a good non-Snitz solution for members I'd be happy to hear that as well and then integrate Snitz as the forums afterward :)

Thanks,
Andrew

Are you going to hide this information somehow? That would be some ripe fruit for a harvester.

Speaking of ripe and harvesting ... how does a person protect from such attempts? I don't even know how an attempt could be accomplished.

1) Is is possible for the database to be scanned for such information?
2) Would a person just have to go page to page and get the information?
3) Worse even, could a person write a script and harvest the info that way?

Thanks,

Etymon

To protect such information you could allow members only to view either the entire profile or you could wrap just the addresses in code that would allow only members to view it. Someone could still join and get them but it couldn't be automated.

You database is safe if you keep it outside the web. Your webhost should have set this up for you already. If someone could scan your database then passwords would be meaningless

A person could go from profile to profile but the harvesters are just like spiders crawling the web scooping up your personal info so you can be emailed offers for goods and services you were not yet aware you couldn't live without.

Yeah, I plan on having everything for members only and also finding or writing in a little thing that emails an address when there's a new signup or modifications to profiles. Our old fashioned secretary keeps a hard copy of everything in a booklet so she wants to know when someone's info has changed anyway so it should double as a good security measure with her reading all the updates. Though I can't imagine her keeping it up once we get everyone on board since there's a few thousand!

Thanks,
Andrew
