There are three language packs:

• Snitz V4b03.003/004 compatible JA LangPack
• Active Users V4.05/07 compatible JA LangPack
• Events Calender V2rs1 Intl (Alpha) compatible LangPack

For all these, you need to have Snitz V4b03.003/004. You can try these language packs as is for your testing of Japanese. BTW, you needs to register in order to download...(sort of "controlled" release...not quite, but would like to know who may be interested perhaps in working on Japanese as well...)

Seems there is some ambiguity of a terminology of "langpack" used, an expression used kind of internally among people involved in help translating/localing resource files/language strings for Snitz, which primarily concerns with UI and system/application messages.. not content/message translation. There is no "translation engine" type capability (often offered by leading search engines - Google, Infoseek, etc. for web page translation with a plug-in module to their web site) exists with Snitz, unless, of course, like you are trying to do (if I remember correctly).

"Language pack" (or perhaps language resource file package or language module or whatever) is a part of "internationalization" of Snitz efforts led by Bozden (whose expertise and design considerations obviously reflected strongly in internal architectual design changes of codes/programs) - in enabling Snitz to handle "international" contents or various language contents... what this would mean, for BBS enviornment, is primarily to enable participants to write/post/reply their topics in their language of choice or in whatever languages he/she may choose or input methods used. Thus, a particular topic content will be a direct input content of whatever locale language used.

If content translation is required, for example, if you see some messages/topics in German, and want to see it in English, most likely you will have a web page or text translation module plugged in (some are free out there, Snitz itself does not have this MOD/add-in plugged in, and don't know whoever Snitz users have it on their Forums) to do a page translation on the fly... this is not an approach taken at present as far as I know and it's really up to a person like you to have it as an additional Forum feature.

I believe you used HurW's forum example with Japanese (wasn't it?) using some translation engine... so I assume that you are familiar with those. If you are looking a forum which does "content/message" translation on the fly, I don't know any out there unless you have a translation engine plugged in as a convenient tool for a visitor to view some language content in whatever language...typically in English or in a locale...not really in multiple languages. (I know one which does tri-lingual cross translation of web pages on the fly - but it's not commercially available - a superfast one which can handle large size web page in CJK-English, using very unique tool/AI, Translation Memory, etc.)

UI/language selector that Bozden mentioned or a current Beta version of Snitz International version enable "publishing" various language contents in Forum (language contents/html pages) but not translation in a process...SW and Forum is not designed for that.

But, if you are looking for a translation engine to plug in ... there are some out there which may be a good choice for you.

BABAL FISH is one of the good ones, but overall, they are good for getting a sense of contents, not "exact meanings". Am not sure whether there are any really out there which can do good "translation" to ensure contextual meanings of messages...

Well, Snitz is very nicely designed in terms of internationalization of Forum, enabling for various/multiple language supports. This one is primarily goes to Snitz International Guru, Sir Bozden!
