Here is the error message: Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
Operation must use an updateable query.
/forum/inc_functions.asp, line 904
URL: www.pilonidal.org/forum
My other questions: can I just delete the html for options like "members, polls, register, profile"?
Can I just delete the html for the login boxes? (if so, how do I log in to administrate?) I really want a very clean interface...
Thank you!

Do a search for Operation must use an updateable query. in the Help: Current Version forum. quote: My other questions: can I just delete the html for options like "members, polls, register, profile"?
You can remove those links if you want. It's found in the inc_top.asp file. But then, there are other places in the forum that access these pages. So you are going to be editing a lot of files. quote: Can I just delete the html for the login boxes? (if so, how do I log in to administrate?) I really want a very clean interface...
If you remove the login box how else are you going to log in as the admin?

Sigh. I think I may have made a mistake in deciding to use Snitz as my message board. All I want is ONE forum, that anyone can post to without having to log in, create profiles, list members etc...
Can anyone recommend a less complicated discussion board software?
I was happy with the way FrontPage does it's message board but apparently the scripting uses a tremendous amout of server resources and my last host shut my site down because of it.
Thanks for the input... |

What is the purpose of having a forum without logging in to distinguish who is who, and having profiles and such?
Snitz is BY FAR the easiest/most mod-able free board you can get! Why would you want to pay for forums?
Why don’t you just start a newsgroup or something . . . .??? Probably be easier to set up if you don’t know a thing about AS/HTML etc.

I run a support site for people with a medical condition. They find out they have the condition, end up at my site, spend a few months hanging around the discussion board interacting with others going through the same thing. After a few months, they've had their surgeries and they go away, usually to never return.
The way my old board works is that you just click on "post" and fill in the blanks. People usually give themselves a handle, but I don't require them to leave names, email addresses, etc... It's bad enough dealing with your medical problems online and the last thing I want to do is make people feel as if their privacy has been invaded on a sensitive subject. No one (and I do mean NO ONE) will ever fill out a profile on my site that can be tied to an email address or login, it's just too embarrassing dealing with this condition.

You can turn off the profile options from your Admin options. Only thing that would be required is an email address a username and a password.

I thought that the whole point of the anonymous forum was that people didn't have to go through that?
Two new problems: I can't delete categories - nothing happens when I click on that icon (the rest all seem to work fine)
I can't get any of the "?" icons to work when I'm in configuration mode - so I have no idea how what some of those settings mean.

It sounds like you have javascript disabled. You will need to turn on Javascript to use the forum.

Ok, I've fixed the Javascript problem. But the forum still demands registration and a user name before posting. How do I turn this off so that anyone can post without registering?
Thanks for your patience!

You probably haven't turned it on. This is in the readme file that came with the mod:
How do I use the Anonymous Access? The Anonymous Access feature is Off by default. Turn it on by going to your Admin Options, select the Feature Configuration link and select the On option beside the Anonymous Access option. Submit your changes. Then you need to select which account you want to use as the Anonymous Account. First you have to register a new user, since you can't make the Admin an Anonymous user. After registering a new user, logout and then log back in as Admin. Go to your Members page. Click on the Pencil icon beside the user account you just created. When you reach the Edit Profile screen, look to the lower right hand corner. There you will see the option to change the Member Level. Select Anonymous User and submit your changes.

Upload the anonymous access mod files into a new folder. Take the database setup files, they start with dbs_ and put them in your existing forum folder. Go to your MOD Setup and run the install for each mod that is listed. Then modify your config.asp in your anonymous access forum, and point it to your existing database.
You should be set to go after that.
