What is the general concensus on type of chat preferred? I've installed a variety of types of chats on my site including ASP, Flash, IRC, CGI/PERL and have seen advantages and disadvantages to almost every one of them. Once I finally decide on a type of chat, I'll be working on integrating seamless logins.

You left out java. That was my preferred choice because it doesn't drain my server's resources.

Oop's, I did leave that out, but I've tried that too. Unfortunately, my hosting provider doesn't allow or support servlets on their Windows servers. So I was looking into other java options. Do you happen to know of any that don't require servlets?

I use a PERL chat with server push pull, beats everything else I´ve seen, no disadvantages really, and the load on the server is limited.

Is this available for download somewhere so I can test it? Personally, I would prefer a server push chat, but it seems hosting providers tend to be relunctant in giving up the resources and would prefer client pull chats.

Is there anywhere I can see the chat in action ?

- I would also very much like it... I have searched for such a chat, but couldn't find one which used the specs that I wanted (no flash, no frames, no client update every second etc.). I was almost going to make such a chat myself...

Oh sorry - I forgot the link

http://www.121webmaster.com

This is the best chat I´ve seen - download the code here:

http://www.gtchat.de/main_en.html

Note - it does not work on Windows servers, only Unix !

I´m online at the chat now...if anyone wants to test it:
