Has anyone modified the profile (registration/update) pages so that instead of typing the URL to include your image with your registration you could just upload the file from, say, your hard drive. I haven't worked with file uploads before and it's proving rather tricky.
Any help would be appreciated

I do it using SA-Fileup which may or may not be available to you. If you check and it is I can send you some files and code to set it up.
