Alright there,
Could someone give me any advice on this mod please.
This is about the 5th or 6th time I've tried installing this mod and I just can’t get it right.
When I install this mod all the posts seem to go all over the place, the old posts become jumbled up and any new posts seem to be posted to any old page. I’ve been over it and over it and according o the read me file I seem to be placing the code in the right places…. I have uploaded text versions of the modified files: http://www.carp-uk.net/forum.txt http://www.carp-uk.net/pop_open.txt http://www.carp-uk.net/pop_lock.txt
Any help would be great.... what am I doing wrong dudes?
......................... http://www.carp-uk.net/forum Version 3.3.03, access db - hide email, avatar2, poll, bookmark, active users, ban ip, private message, random email password, Crash's hover mod, adv colour, sig preview..... 121host.

Doyou have a link to something that is showing the problem, nothing this mod does (even if wrong) would cause the behaviour you are describing.

Alright Huw,
Sorry I can't leave the mod on the forum as everyone goes mad........ "wheres all the posts gone" "whats going on here" and all that lark, can't blame em, when you post a new topic it just disappears to anothe page and you have to search it out.
I've tried it quite a few times now.... sending me nutz! Think I'll have to make another test forum somewhere.
Thanks, Robin. |

Ok, it should have added a field to your TOPICS table called T_INPLACE. which should default to a value of 0, check your tabl and if this column does not contain 0's, then update it so that it does, and make sure the default is set to 0, although it shouldn't matter.
The only difference in your code should be that the query now sorts by T_INPLACE and then the date, so if you install the mod, and don't actually lock a topic inplace, then it will have no effect whatsoever on the ordering.

Alright Huw,
You are right on all counts of course, they are all 0's in the column though there are gaps... I don't know why but I do know there are no gaps in the other tables, by gaps i mean the first 20 or so cells have 0's in and them some cells don't and then some cells again have 0's in, sorry I don't know much about database's........ should I fill these gaps with 0's or should it be ok as it is!
Also you are right that there is no effect until I actually lock a topic in place then it all goes nutzzz, the only problem is I can't reverse the problems with putting my old saved files back in the forum.
3.4 isn't out yet is it? Good news that your mod is in there!
Thanks. |

Yes, try setting them all to 0, then lock a topic inplace. if everything goes haywire, just open the db and set the one that is '1' to zero to put it back how it was.

Alright Huw,
Try not to laugh! I filled in all the 0's and in a strange way it did improve things, instead of the new topics going to a random page they now go straight to the bottom......... the last post of the last page, at least I know where to find em
So I guess after making the adjustment things changed points to me having a database problem somewhere....... roll on 3.4
Thanks Huw. |

Alright Huw,
Thanks for all your help but I think it might all be for nothing, 121 have just informed me that my site is using 5gb of bandwidth when I'm only allowed 1gb, what that all means I don't know....
I've looked at their site and I can see there is no way I can afford the upgrade they want me to take out, could you advise me "soon please" the details of your hosting if available....
The hours I've put into that site is unreal and more than just a little pissed off especially with the rude way I have been told.
Thanks, Robin - rbndvs@hotmail.com |
