My new forum has a number of users that want to have a page to go to that lists all the messages since their last visit.
The Active Topics apparently isn't enough and so they want a list of all the newest messages.
I'm sure over time I can develop this, but has anyone else created something I can start with? I would think it would work like a combination of the active topics page and the standard topic page.
Thanks in advance,
Don

I fail to see how Active Topics isn't enough. Not only can you see messages since last visit, but you can view new posts in the last hour, 2 hours, 12 hours, week, month, etc. What else do they want?

I know for me, I like Active Topics much better. I'm trying to get some of them used to using it that way but we'll see how it goes. I'm converting a group from a Yahoo Club of about 1,400 members and some are used to viewing the simple list that the Club format has.
I think we have a much better system but if I could make a few more happy without a lot of work I figured it's worth a try.

What do the Yahoo Club listings look like?

The club listings basically have a list of the title of each message (each message has a title) along with the poster and then you can click on the message to see the details.
Or they browse from message to message (they are all jumbled just in order of post and not separated by topic).

I guess I'm not seeing the right thing, or it doesn't really do what I want.
Basically what I'm thinking of is exactly like the active topics page except that under each topic it would then list all the new messages (with contents). So it would be like taking the message portion of the topics page (topic if it is new and any new replies) and putting it just under each topic in the active topics page.
The recent topics mod only lists the topics and I really am trying to get the messages under each topic also.
Does anyone have this? Anyone who knows the ASP more completely willing to give it a go? I tried copying and pasting and obviously it didn't work and I don't have the serious hours to try and figure out what in the code isn't working.
I'd even take a version that listed the message contents and poster but not have any of the icons for the individual messages (so to reply etc. you would have to open the complete thread).
Most people love the new forum but there is still a few that really want this.
Thanks if anyone can help,

Use the Recent Topics MOD! It displays the last 5, 10, 25 or 50 active topics on your forums!
Download it at http://www.calvsa.net/snitz/mods.asp
My version of the MOD: http://kjartis.com/forum/inc_mod_recent.asp You can link it in the menu, or like me link it in the Active Topics page!

I like tha Active Topics mod, it's great. Except for one small thing. When I click a topic I end up at the top of the topic, looking at the text I've already read before (or posted myself).
I would like a small button that, when pressed, took you down to the first NEW message in the thread. (This is a feature in the vBulletin software that I appreciate a lot!)

I think I know what you're talking about. It's similar to something I'm looking for. What it would amount to would be an extra forum that would show up only when there are new messages in any of the other forums. When you click on that forum, every new message regardless of topic or anything else would show up in that list. I think it can be done but I haven't looked into it deeply yet. I've been seeing if anyone else has done anything like it yet. |
