Just a thought,
But have you noticed these distributions below offer much of what you are intending to build already, and maybe more?
1: www.magicmushroom.org.uk (Huwrs Site)
2: www.crashsite.nl (Crash's Site)((based upon Huwrs')
Plus, these sites also have a great deal of user input regarding their distributions.(questions, FAQ's and specific mods/fixes)
I have yet to install Crash's distro, but can recommend Huwrs' as a great start to learn more from.
