Hmm. On that site, the (special) Turkish characters are not rendered correctly. I tried all related encodings, including auto. The hardcoded (?) encoding is "charset=utf-8" Can you provide some info what is done there?
You got deep into utf-8 to solve Japanese problems, I think you can help me on this.

As for webtranslators forum, Dixon can provide you more insights as to what he did. As for i2AsiaForum,
1) I opened 1041.asp in Notepad2002, edited Japanese, and saved it as utf-8 file. In 1041
arrLang (intLangIndexCount,2) = " " is set to "utf-8"
That's basically what I did.
One problem in doing any edit in File Manager window of Brinkster is that only unicode encoding schme setup will allow me to do direct edit and view JA chars properly rendered... and of course in "viewing" web page, it doesn't require any particular encoding adjustment.
I basically followed what Dixon suggested, however, I continue to have problems in properly installing Traditional Chinese, Lang1028.asp...(thus not included in 12AsiaForum) while Dixon has it properly installed...so, I may not have it done fully correctly for deploying it in unicode/utf-8.... So, basically what I did was to do edit necessary file locally and uploaded it to the server rather than doing it directly within Brinkster.
Also, Dixon has Simplified Chinese language deployed in his site. Believe it is a good idea to have both Traditional and Simplified Chinese language packs...(so that mainland China - Simplified Chinese and HK/TWN etc - Traditional are represented). Hope Dixon will respond to your inquiry.

Just joined. Unicode based multilingual enviornment is the way to go for real multilingual environment...beauty of unicode is of course you can handle multiple languages with a single encoding scheme rather than having mulitple individual encoding schemes for all languages... Really a great base for globalization.
BTW, I have SHIFT-J version of 1041 (saved in ANSI 1252) which is also tested at i2AsiaFORUM, loaded at my lang1041 download site. Seahorse is notified. Unless you are going to consolidate a multilingual platform on unicode - ie a full unicode based Forum - there would be national encoding shemes required for individual languages and some languages have different flavors of encoding schemes - Japanese have SHIFT-JIS, JIS, SHIFT-JIS W/SINGLE BYTE SUPPORT, EUC and of course UNICODE. Chinese also have some different encoding schmes, etc. So, I would assume, a best is to have a unicode enabled language pack for all languages (a global multilingual pack) and language packs...esp to provide better choice in language implementation as I don't believe everyone will be option a truely globalized multilingual enviornment...But again, DB is already enabled.
