I am planning on translating version 3.4 to Dutch as soon as it's released. However, if someone is planning the same thing, maybe we could work together on it. It'll defenately speed things up.

when 3.4 is released, we will begin work in earnest on Bozdens huge volume of work on internationilsing the forum, you may be better working towards this than translating the 3.4 version.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that I'd better make a lang file for version 4.x instead of translating 3.4. In that case I don't have much work to do as I know of several people who have that file already.

What I want to do is provide a Dutch version of 3.4 so people with Dutch forums won't have to translate it themselves or are forced to choose from three things:
1- stick with version 3.3.03 and have those security problems
2- install an English version 3.4 and thereby change languages
3- download a beta version 4.x and have bugs in their forums

I appreciate and understand your arguments. I want to add another. At this moment, it is uncertain how mods will be integrated in the new international version. It will probably take some time before some problems, for example the structuring of the database, wil be solved. The translation of the mods itself will also take some time. When you administer a heavily modded forum in a production enviroment with many users, as is the case with me, a translated version 3.4 as you suggest, can overlap the time. So, although my orientation is on the international version, I appreciate very much that you will translate it, and I would love to have a copy of it.

Any and every mod that I update/release for version 3.4 will be internationalized.

No doubt, and I think it 's great, and I admire your mods. My reply is only about "what to do" between the time that 3.4 is released and version 4 with enough mods to tranfer to the international version. In a production-environment that is an issue that must be valued.

Only one question pops in my head: should I do the upgrade version or the full 3.4 version?
I'd like to know which one would be preferred as I don't want to end up having the full forums translated and then people coming to me asking for the upgrade or vice versa.

Personally I think going with the full version would be best, but I'd still like to know which one is preferred.

3.4 will only be released as a full kebob. But I'm with Huwr. . . don't waist your time on it.

Okay, are there any other moderators that feel that way? I mean if I'm really wasting my time on it for whatever reason, I won't do it.
I'm busy enough as it is but thought there might be a demand for 3.4 Dutch.

Anyway, if I can help out with the internationalization (who ever came up with that word must've been a scrabble player ) I'll be more than happy to do so.

*trying to remember what he was going to say next*

Oh yeah, I also just remembered that there's a Dutch help forum. They'll probably figure something out for version 3.4. I'll check those forums too.

Thank you Nathan for your creative input
Too bad you guys aren't allowed to use Dutch words in scrabble 'cause otherwise kindercarnavalsoptochtvoorbereidingswerkzaamheden might have been a nice word too (and it's 13 more letters than your word).

Ohhhh whatever happened to sticking to the original subject of a thread? lol

Fruzle, I waited until this point. A major problem is make the existing MODs v4 compatible - it will absolutely take some time (they also need change in code). But even this will happen in parallel. We know now how to do it and how much time we need to do it.

I'd fix some security issues (if any) in an existing v3.4 installation, upgrade to v4b04 (if running any v4.x betas), and wait for v4.0f for a major upgrade on a running site.

v4.0b03.003 has less bugs than there are in v3.3.03 (which is current). The worst thing in v4 betas is - I probably we wont have automatic upgrade support...

Okay. No Dutch translation of 3.4 then. I'll try to help out with version 4.x then (see my post about the FAQ in the DEV: general forum).

Erm... As I have manually translated all end-user visual pages except for the faq.asp and register.asp files, I find myself hitting my head on the wall for not habing checked here earlier :P
Anyway, as I am *not* using any international version, I'd like to throw in a request for either of the 2 asp's mentioned above, in Dutch. That saves me a load of translating, I guess.

Roland, I want to help you translate 3.4. I'm stuck on one of my forums with a 3.1 version and big security problems. I don't want to wait for version 4. I have already translated 3.1 and 3.3. So, I have experience.
