Hello.
Just curious, is there a way to limit the size of an image that a user post on a thread? I don't want someone to insert a 20 meg image in a thread!

Thanks again!

currently no, but I am working on something that will prevent this from happening using the logic similar to what I am doing here:

http://www.hafresno.org/development/imgSize.htm

this allows me to get the dimensions of the image to I can constrain it within a width and height of my choosing. there is no client side script to get file sizes of an image based on a url so this will be an alternative.

Just curious, but why would anyone want to insert a 20MB file into a post? The only image files that I know that are capable of reaching sizes like that (and MUCH bigger) are not usable on the net. Most images won't exceed 100kb, although I have seen people who make 500kb images and use those everywhere.

Keep HTML formatting off and your users won't be able to put SWF files in their posts. Those files can get extremely big and slow down the loading a lot.

This one is a little over 14MB:

You wouldn't want someone placing [img] [/img] tags around it...

Look at the size of that image. It's not exactly a screendump or logo.

That image is an extreme example and I don't believe there would be many people who'd include images that big in a post.

Yeah, but also keep in mind that that image is over 1000DPI and most images won't be over 150DPI
