I posted this before everything was wiped out so I should post it again.

A couple changes since then, changed the Nestcape buttons so now they are icons instead of input buttons and fixed the problems with the colors
Demo:
http://209.35.175.12/snitz/post.asp?method=Topic&FORUM_ID=5&CAT_ID=3&Forum_Title=Poll+Testing

Download:

Again Let me know if there are any problems and suggestions. Also a lot of this code came from a ubb hack which I did get permission from the guy who originally wrote it to have it added to Snitz Forums 2000

Wow. I know there have been a LOT of <u>terrific</u> mods made to this forum since this project began but, IMHO, this has got to be one of the coolest.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> -Thanks for sharing!

Since both providers that I am using to test the Snitz Forums don't support perl at all, I went to spellchecker.net and found that they have an ASP version of the sproxy.cgi that you included in the .zip above. I haven't really looked at it yet, but I figure it would be easy to change the code to use sproxy.asp instead of sproxy.cgi.

Here is the link to download it:

http://www.spellchecker.net/support/software/sproxy_asp.zip

Just to let you know, it was just a matter of changing the path and file name in IECODE.asp and Netscapebuttons.asp to use the ASP version of sproxy.

Cool the asp version of spellchecker must be a new one!

Yeah Kal Corp, I think you asked this before (or someone did) and I never got back to them. Sorry about that!!!!

Open inc_code.asp
At the top replace:

helpstat = false;
stprompt = false;
basic = true;

with

helpstat = false;
basic = false;
stprompt = true;

And in Post.asp search for
<input type="radio" name="mode" value="help" onClick="thelp(1)">&nbsp;&nbsp;Help&nbsp;&nbsp;
<input type="radio" name="mode" value="prompt" checkthis2 onClick="thelp(2)">&nbsp;&nbsp;Full&nbsp;&nbsp;
<input type="radio" name="mode" value="basic" checkthis0 onClick="thelp(0)" <font color=red>checked</font id=red>>&nbsp;&nbsp;Basic&nbsp;&nbsp;

and just move "checked" to "Full".
Eventually I want to set it up so people can choose their default setting.

oops Forgot to mention! If you check this out while the Voice Posting is turned on. Don't be fooled. MessageBay Voice Posts are not included in this. Sorry!!!! I am giving the code to MessageBay for this (and UBB) and will let them distribute it. MessageBay is kind of up in the air for general distribution because there can be a charge from them if you have an active board.

OK, I don't mean to be dumb, but what does the mode button do? I've changed that a few times and it doesn't seem to do much....am I just being dense??

Well in basic mode when you click a button it just inserts the code. In full mode it prompts you for the text or URL. Get it? <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Oooops, was that in the zip file? Shouldn't have been. If so I don't think it will work, but I will document it and post it here.

Hey JohnM, Are you working on "Forum Mail" or "Private Messages" (whatever you want to call it)?

First of all - I agree with Kerry. This is the best mod of all to this forum. I've tried it an got it to work but there are some errors on my system. (MS IIS4.0/Acc 2000).
<font color=red>1. Error in inc_functions.asp</font id=red>
I've implemented the exact inc_functions.asp as dwnl from slemieux, used the sproxy.asp that Richard Kinser provided a link to (in the same directory as the rest of the files), changed the address on the link in IECODE.asp and Netscapebutton.asp to sproxy.asp and everything is uploaded to a new afp directory (except inc_functions.asp, post.asp, inc_code and pop_icons.asp that is where it always has been). Please tell me if something is done wrong here! I think this will be helpful for a lot of people out there.

I can post using this Forum Code, but when a reply is posted I get this message:

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e10'

No value given for one or more required parameters.

/forum2/inc_functions.asp, line 1304

The message is posted though, and I get the "New Reply Posted!" from post_info.asp. Can anyone please help me with some tips on how to fix this error.

<font color=red>2. Error using spellchecker</font id=red>
Also when using the spellchecker I get this error when trying to finish checking:

HTTP Error 405
405 Method Not Allowed

The method specified in the Request Line is not allowed for the resource identified by the request. Please ensure that you have the proper MIME type set up for the resource you are requesting.

Please contact the server's administrator if this problem persists.

Do any of you know where to start correcting this.

I really like this forum code and would love to have it working on my forum. Thnx to slemieux for sharing the code.

The only files I put in the /forum/afp directory are:

<pre id=code><font face=courier size=2 id=code>
bold.gif
center.gif
code.gif
color.gif
email.gif
help.gif
image.gif
italicize.gif
list.gif
quote.gif
smilie.gif
spell.gif
translate.gif
underline.gif
url.gif
</font id=code></pre id=code>

All other files went into the /forum/ directory. The path in the IECode.asp and Netscapebuttons.asp had to have the full path (everything after the first <b> / </b> in the address to the forum.)

for example mine is <b> http://www11.ewebcity.com/dssdbs/forum/</b>

so for the path to sproxy.asp I put <b>/dssdbs/forum/sproxy.asp</b>

Also, I used my post.asp and added the referenced code instead of using the included post.asp. There was some other stuff (such as the picture upload, etc.) that was in the included post.asp. Maybe try just editing your post.asp and adding the necessary code?

Hope this helps....

While searching for the HTTP 405 error I found this that is probably what's wrong. The sproxy.asp has to be in a directory that can run <b>scripts</b>. The following is for Emurl but applies here as well.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote><b>
Why does IIS 4.0, occasionally display an HTTP Error 405 message when I use Emurl?

The following error may appear after installing Emurl with IIS 4.0:

HTTP Error 405
405 Method Not Allowed

This error means that the method specified in the Request Line is not allowed for the resource identified by the request. Please ensure that you have the proper MIME type set up for the resource you are requesting.

This error will be displayed by IIS 4.0 when you have not created a "Scripts" Virtual Directory or have not assigned it Execute Permissions.

To create a new Virtual Directory follow the guidelines below:

In your IIS 4.0 Management Console, right-click on the wwwservice you are using or the default web site you are using for Emurl and click New/Virtual Directory. This displays a Virtual Directory Wizard. Name this new directory Scripts and either specify the correct path or browse to the scripts directory. Make sure that you assign Execute Permissions to this new virtual directory.
</b><hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Sorry I forgot to mention that about the <b>sproxy.asp</b>. When I use Ewebcity.com I can have the sproxy.asp in the /forum/ directory but on my other provider www.domaindlx.com , there is a <b>/scripts/</b> directory that I had to put the <b>sproxy.asp</b> file in.

Hi Lord Maverick,

Did you ever fiqure out the first problem?
You might try commenting out the second SQL statement in that sub and see if it goes away. That is from animedj last_user mod (but I think I remember you adding that). It could be for some reason those two are conflicting.

Let me know what you find out!
