Has anyone coded a setup file for this? (and/or a version that we can just include our config.asp on the same page to have it work?)
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote> New version of the Slash add-on. Basically added and admin interface and started to use a new table FORUM_MODS, for future mods to use as well. *note : this mod uses mod commander.

So now bugs and fixes are welcome ^^;;

Will this be in the next ver. release of Snitz? If so I'll wait. If not, could someone please post the directions on how to set this up. I read all the posts, but it is not making any sense. What ver. is needed for this to work?

Download the slash.zip file, exctract all files to your /mod directory, login to your forum and go to the admin options. You will see the 'Slash Mod' added to the 'Mod Control' at the bottom of page. (it's always good to read the readme before installing anything) Click on the 'go' link in the Admin column and follow the setup instructions and that's it.
All you have left to do is to include the mod into one of your pages, along with the config.asp and inc_functions.asp files. All of this is stated in the readme file in the zip. <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>What ver. is needed for this to work?<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote> It works with 3.1 final and later... I haven't tested it with the latest beta, but it works ok in SR2 and the final.

Hi There, (animedj in particular)
I just wanted to clarify something... Is Slash Mod V2 the ongoing evolution of what has also been called Mini-slash mod, as per another thread with heaps of discussion on that mod? Of are they different forms of a similar concept?
Cheers,
Infinity

It allows you to display messages from your forum on the front page of your website. For a demo look here: http://animedj.com
The messages you see in the middle of the screen are from the forum on that site. It's used to get visitors involved because once the click on one of the messages, then are in your forum and will probably click on other messages also. |

Now that I have the mod working, and customized to my site...
I have my forums set to be viewable for members only (easy enough). When this is set, the mod doesn't work to the general public (at least to them it appears that way).
Could I make the slash mod view the forum code as a specific member? That way the forum is still "protected" but slash.asp still displays the forum posts?

If strTablePrefix = "FORUM_" is changed to something else in the config.asp ie. strTablePrefix = "DOGS_" The script will not work <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> This will be the case where users have more than one forum running in the same SQL database.

The Slash Mod is used to display a few of the latest posts made on your forum, on the front page of your website, which is outside of your forum. It can be on any page you want, doesn't have to be the front page. You can customize how many posts to show, how many characters to display for each posts and what order you want them to be shown.

I'm really lost here guys, do I include the mod in a page like this:
<pre id=code><font face=courier size=2 id=code><!--#INCLUDE FILE="config.asp" --> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="inc_functions.asp" --> . . . <!--#INCLUDE FILE="mods/slash.asp" --></font id=code></pre id=code> . . . and if so, I get this error:
<pre id=code><font face=courier size=2 id=code>Microsoft JET Database Engine (0x80040E14) The SELECT statement includes a reserved word or an argument name that is misspelled or missing, or the punctuation is incorrect. /forums/mods/slash.asp, line 56</font id=code></pre id=code>
and if not, what is the correct way? Thank you
ô¿~
