Admin: View Database
Author: Dan Martin

Ease of Installation (1-Hard, 10-Easy): 2

Download: http://www.councilofgrey.com/mods/adminDBmod.zip

DEMO: Sorry, screen shots are going to have to be good enough for this one(note, the pictures are erased in spots on purpose to hide data):
http://www.councilofgrey.com/temp/dbmod.jpg
http://www.councilofgrey.com/temp/dbmod2.jpg

This MOD is an additional admin page that allows admins to look at your entire forum database or perform ad-hoc SQL queries on your forum database. If you are unfamiliar with SQL, you can still use this MOD to look at your database.

This MOD doesn't care what is in your database. It will work no matter how many tables or fields you have added (the fields and tables are not coded into the ASP). This mod is for anyone who wants to avoid downloading the forum database just to troubleshoot.

Why this MOD is a beta:

-Only tested on Snitz 3.3. I cannot guarantee that it will work on other versions of Snitz. I beleive it will, but I don't know for sure

-Only tested with MS Access. I don't think it will work with any other databases. Again, I really don't know for sure.

To install:
Copy admin_database.asp to /forum, or your main forum directory.

On your admin_home.asp, Appx line 88
After this:
<LI><a href="admin_mod_dbsetup.asp">MOD Setup</a></LI>
Add this:
<LI><a href="admin_database.asp">View Forum Database</a></LI>

If you try this with other databases, or in Snitz versions other than 3.3, please post how it turns out. If you notice any bugs please post. If you just like it, please post. If you don't like it, please don't post. Oh heck, post anyway.

Thanks,
Dan

hey dan, have you ever seen TableEditor? It is a must have for remote database support. I use this thing all the time on my snitz database:

I use TableEditor all the time to view the data and even make changes. That is such a great tool and with options to add, delete, modify fields, tables run queries and works with any database and so on.

No, that's the first I've ever heard of it.

I have downloaded and used TableEditor. It is very nice and has more functionality than I probably will ever have time to add to this mod.

However, I still think there is benefit to the above mod.

For 1, it is linked into the forum. It shares its security and navigation features.

For 2, it is much easier for most people to set up. TableEditor requires some work and development experience to set up. It took me a while to figure out how to get it to work, and I think I'm more advanced in this area than alot of people.

Well, I've pleaded my case. I'll shut up now.

Any admins that could create a "TableEditor Rocks!" topic and move these messages there?
