Primary install of forum...

First I spent all day getting my web host to make the cgi-bin writeable. 8 hours!!!! It contains the Snitz database. //cgi-bin/database. Once done the infamous 80004005 error went away.

Now I am getting
"error 'ASP 0115'
Unexpected error

/Forums/default.asp

A trappable error occurred in an external object. The script cannot continue running. "

I'm on a PC running Access 1997 and Win2k. Config.asp contains

"strConnString = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=D:\Inetpub\like-ables.com\cgi-bin\snitz_forums_2000.mdb" '## MS Access 97"

URL= www.like-ables.com (under development). To go to Snitz forum click blue link at top right-hand side of home page.

Please help!

Thanks! Mike

You have

"strConnString = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=D:\Inetpub\like-ables.com\cgi-bin\snitz_forums_2000.mdb" '## MS Access 97"

its needs to be without the comment in red above like below:

strConnString = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=D:\Inetpub\like-ables.com\cgi-bin\snitz_forums_2000.mdb" '## MS Access 97"

Regards,

Spoon, (ya all love me right?)

Sorry pal, that was my opening quote to show what follows is an extract. There's one at the end too!

My actual code does not contain the quote.

Thanks though... would welcome other possibilities. Still have the problem.

Regards, Mike

The error indicates a problem outside of asp itself, most likely the database connection isn't right.

Are you saying your web host is on a PC running W2K with Access 97 installed on it?

No Doug, that's my system. My web host is Cobweb solutions.

Perhaps I should upload the database again. If no go I shall give the host another call first thing in the morning. That way I may stand some chance of having a simple 30 second tweak to the cgi-bin directory carried out so the {bleep} system will work.

Cobweb used to be excellent. Having some doubts now!

Unless there's anything else comes to mind I'll leave things until morning. Thanks!

Regards, Mike

If cobweb is a unix/chilisoft based host you won't be able to use a connection string to an access database. Search the forums here and you'll find lots of posts about chilisoft.

Many thanks. Got the thing going and spent a couple of days confusing my head with colour schemes.

The ISP had not set correct write permissions (twice).

Now I have a different problem that I'll post on another thread.
