Hi,
My members of the forum were interested in Java Chat, so I contacted Digichat.com and asked for their software. They quoted about 500 dollars.
Now we have a free flash software on the other hand. So now we have to make a decision, Java chat or flash chat. What would be the best solution according to you ?
Sal.

Try this one maybe? It's pretty cool and only $49.95 It's basically a java version of mIRC that you can embed on your web page.

Can you put a link to demo the two you mentioned? I know a pure C chat which disclaimed only use 5% of resource. but I have to compare them first before recommed it. you need to have dedicated server or right to access root though.

I had to ditch the Flash chat because of resource consumption. I loved it but there was no way my web host would let me keep it. It was also rendered too tiny to read by some mac users.

now that we have heard flash chat consumes lots of resources, the only option left is Digi Java chat. But it is 'expensive' seriously its very expensive like 500 bux only for a chat .
you may see the demo of that chat at http://www.digichat.com ( the chat people ) or http://www.pakion.com ( the guyz who have it on their site )
Tell me guyz what to do !!

flash chat is only resource hungry if there are alot of users. for just limited chat it is fine.
TANGO
Computers run on smoke, when the smoke comes out, they quit running!

Yes, it's fine if few people use it, but I design a website in the hopes that large numbers of people will use it and the resources available on it including chat.

i use pipeys, but as said its no good with volumes of users, why not just stick to an irc chatroom, which you can have hosted my any old irc network? theyre reliable...and good..but if oyu want to integrate i guess its a no go.

Why dont u guyz try digichat and tell me what do u think of it ? It is so nice and my members are used to it from the other site. But the price tag is also high.
I told my members, i will buy it once we have alteast 200 members.. now there are around less than 75. Because then i might get some help from the affiliate money.
Lets See.!

I thought it looked pretty cool but not worth the price tag. Maybe if you had 500 members, but even with 200 members you won't see that much use of it at one time. Still, if you have the money, go for it. Features bring in new members.

IMHO, digichat is good, but expensive. I checked it's price, the rental is also high. If I buy one, I wonder how much resource it would consume, anybody tracked that?
I want to inplement a chat in my site too, and I'm looking for a program suite just like you.
I don't want a program uses a lot of resource. And I'm considering rent a chat rather than put it on my own (shared) server. also it would be great if I can integrate it with my community built with Snitz.
I took a look at jpilot, it's ok, considering it's an irc client, i'd like to put such one in my site, for people like irc. while I'd need another chat for my members as well.
I found on in the local market. It's called Ichat, but I don't think it's the one listed in digichat. let's call it ichatCN. it's written in pure c++ and act as a chat server, so if you want to install it you have to have root access. According to it's intro, it comsum only 5% cpu and 5M of ram for hundreds of users. The price is high for buy, as you can use it to open a lot of chat rooms (even for others)
room*user/room 6*255 300usd 12*255 400+ 30*255 600+ n*400 900+ n*400gold 1200+ with the ultimate 1200usd one, their brand can be removed and life time support offered.
but the rental is attractive
140usd/year for n*400, if you don't have that many of users, there's one for less than 80usd/year, 50 users. the outlook is html and you can change it as you like.
here's a demo but it's in Chinese. log in as guest with no pass and take a look the main problem is how to find a good server to rent if you are not in China, and the company is new and not so promising on renting servers. the better would be rreselling from a brand isp
