User name wasn't blank, it was First name that was blank, that's one of the optional fields that users can or do not have to fill in.

A blank user name huh? This is interesting.
First in the DB make sure the field is set to required ( maybe it got turned off?? ), and secondly maybe they are using ascii character that get turned to spaces or such and then are removed. If you signed up as (tangoc 9999 and tangoc 9999 where the second had 2 spaces it would show up as only 1 space). This has been discussed in the bugs forum and I belive a fix is in the works.

I think the best thing to do ( at the moment ) is check for the [/ in the name and prevent them from using a name like that.
This what they can still register [white] or [b] but cannot have the closing tag as well
what do ya think?

i was experimenting and character map will duplicate the blank look without having the tags.
