ust a small note to appologise for any dodgy connections or strange behaviour.
Myself and Tim have been moving databases from one server to another, so may may experiences slowness and some connection problems until everything is sorted out.
Please bear with us while we make these improvements to the servers.
Many thanks Huw

Uhgg!! I was on the active.asp page, tried to click on a topic to view it but then was redirected to the ip address for forum.snitz.com. Shrugged it off and went back to the active.asp page. Saw that some of the posts I had made a few minutes ago wasn't there. Thought that was a glitch so i replied again. But it seemed no one else was posting. So I tried back the forum.snitz.com/forum/active.asp page, instead of the ip address and then saw where all my replies had went!! Maaan.
Thanks for letting us know HuwR. Was wondering what was happening.

To start this off I'd first like to apologize for all the problems with up/downtime lately. I know this can be very frustrating on the users' stand point and it's even more frustrating on my side believe me.
What happened: Well after upgrading the "old" server to SQL 2k, I had all kinds of problems with users permissions not transferring not to mention all of the databases not transferring correctly. However, with Huwrs' help (thank you Huwr you rock!), we were able to get things up and running but not so smoothly.
To add to matters, I found out that someone was relaying through one of my smtp servers and had over 27,000 messages totalling almost 600 megs of traffic. This caused the server to almost go down to it's knees and anyone that knows a server knows that it cannot run processing with 20k of ram left. That's right, it only had 20k of ram left after this incident and all these messages in the que.
So I've taken the bogus email software off the new server (email software was a joke) and have put on something that I have used in the past and know it performs.
What's in the future for this new server? Well, I just ordered 3 new SDRAM chips for it... 512mb x 3 = lots of RAM for processing! I hope to have them in there within the next 2 weeks and hope all goes well. I currently have a 512mb chip that I cannot use (errr high density) and found that my motherboard only likes the other stuff (excuse me but I'm not that technical when it comes to hardware).
So that's it folks, I deeply apologize for any inconvenience and hope sometime in the future we can get Snitz over to this new server but I refuse to do this knowing the server has a few issues that I'm dealing with and I want to provide the best possible service I can and have.
Cheers, Tim

I did receive a Message like I did just register to snitz forum... What a big delay! Could it be this problem?

I'm sure there were tons of mail in this que but cannot be sure yours was one of them because I'm referring to a different mail server all together then what Snitz utilizes.
My mailbox went nuts also with notifications of replies to topics in the beta forum where those replies were posted a week or 2 ago. They might have been stuck somewhere.
No big deal...though Tim you might want to check if "webmaster@snitz.com" was one of the senders in those 27,000...then again if it wasn't the same mailserver...and doing a search on 27,000 mails...uggh...just hope you got rid of the one responsible for those messages.

How about IMail ? Or are you looking for something free/cheap? As IMail definitely isn't cheap. |

You can try Merak Mail tim. http://www.merakmail.com
I use it and it's very easy to maintain and quite reliable. Especially with the tons of features it has. You also get thier Web Mail software with it for free, which enables you to give your users web mail access. It's great.

Ok, so much for Merak. I looked around and found a few other mail servers, but it's a bit hard choose one without knowing if they are any good. So I found this page with full reviews of some of the more popular mail servers from Serverwatch. http://serverwatch.internet.com/mailservers.html
You could choose which one would be good for you.
