Hi,
I am really new to this :-) I downloaded and read the readme file. Here is my stupid question. It says:
5. If you don't have an email component, John Penfold <asp@asp-dev.com> (http://www.asp-dev.com) recommends W3Jmail from http://www.dimac.net. It's good and free!
What is the e-mail component for? So that you are notified by mail when someone replies to the topic? I assume it should be installed on the server. If they already have one, is there anything to set up?
Thanks in advance,
Gilles

Yes that's the use of it. That notice about W3Jmail is if you run the forum on a machine you own.
If you don't have your own host, most (99%) of the hosting componies do not allow installation of new components upon request. But most of them have their own e-mail components, for gods sake . If this is the case for you (or to see if its the case), just do this:
Go to the admin menu, "e-mail server configuration" section. The topmost combo box (select e-mail component) will show a list of e-mail components. These are actually allowed by your hosting company, for your domain. If the list says "No Compatible Component Found", then you're unlucky, you don't have any e-mail component to use. This time you have some choices: (1) Live without it, (2) Ask the hosting company to install a popular one, (3) Change your hosting.

I don't think that function comes in the SR4 version. You can go here: http://forum.snitz.com/archive/default.asp?catid=11&cattitle=Forum+Setup+Tools and download the "Check Email Components" tool. Then upload the file to your forum folder and run it from your browser. It will tell you what email components are installed on the server.

David, you're absolutely correct.
Although its stated that the alpha versions are not supported, I think most of the people download v3.2a6 (it's somehow at a more natural place to click on the download page), as it gives more options then 3.1sr4.
How did you find out that Gilles uses SR4 version? Before my previous post I looked for it and couldn't find a forum on their website.
Just curious...

Thanks to both of you for responding.
I was actually expecting a notification by email and never got it. E-mail component problem?
You're correct David I have not installed it yet. I should do that this week.
I need to translate everything in French . Do you know if somebody's done it already?

Because naturally I would think he would have downloaded the SR4 version and not the Alpha.quote: Although its stated that the alpha versions are not supported, I think most of the people download v3.2a6 (it's somehow at a more natural place to click on the download page), as it gives more options then 3.1sr4.
We will help you with it if you need help setting it up in a non-productive enviroment. But if you use it for your public site/community, and you run into some error, that's when you're on your own. That's basically what it means.
