It seems if it's not one thing it's another. My forum has been up and down for the past few hours - when it's down I'm getting this message:
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
Could not update; currently locked by user 'Admin' on machine 'CHEETAH'.
/forum/inc_top.asp, line 246
I added the forum announcement mod before the trouble started - could this have affected the site somehow? (I had first tested the mod on my test forums without any problems).
Or could this just be a server problem again?
Thanks.

that error would indicate that your database is still opened by something or someone else. Is your database open in Access? If not you might need to manually delete the .ldb file that is in the same directory as your database. |

When I was setting up the announcements mod I had a couple of errors when I was modifying the database (I don't know why). So perhaps something could have been left open.
I am using Access, but I honestly have no clue what you mean by deleting the .ldb file - where would that be? I looked in my directory where the database is and I didn't see it.
Sorry, I am very new to this kind of thing.

You'll find the .ldb file in the same directory as the .mdb file, and with the same filename. This file keeps track of users and locks for Access, it's automatically created when you open access. Sometimes if you open the database with Access itself, it can lock the webserver out of the database.

Okay - thanks. I didn't actually open the datasbase (don't have Access on my computer).
The problems have seemed to have stopped - it was up and down for a while but now things are running smoothly again. Whatever had happened I guess it straightened itself out - lucky for me
Thanks for the help.

I am truly amazing - I did it again. I added another mod to my test site (which is on the same server as my real forum) and it worked beautifully. I added it to my real forum and everything was fine until I started to get:
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
Could not update; currently locked by user 'Admin' on machine 'CHEETAH'.
/forum/inc_top.asp, line 343
I've looked in the directory with the database, I don't see any other file in there with it, let alone one with a .ldb extension.
I'm not sure why this keeps happening - I didn't do anything different between the test forum and the real forum. Could this be due to some type of permissions from my server? They were concerned about security and changed the permissions a bit.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
**Okay, I am seeing that .ldb file. I keep deleting it, but it keeps coming back.
