How do I put a background picture onto these forums? If it is possible, what do I have to edit and what file?

Put this in the body tag of your inc_top file. <body background="http://www.yourserver.com/yourbackground.gif"
Also, if you want the background to show in pop-up windows, add this to inc_top_short.

This should help you out.
