SnitzBitz relocated
24 April 2016, 11:53
Dear Snitz Forums community,
The current SnitzBitz hosts have decided to put their servers to the grave and has given us the SnitzBitz files and database to keep. We have moved the site over to our servers here, ran by Huw, but there are some lingering issues that will take a little longer to fix.
File uploads are not working at the moment, but downloading mods still works.
We're also looking to redo the site using newer technologies, as a make over is long overdue. Thanks for your understanding and patience. :)

Newer Technologies
I assume that means .Net? Here's a suggestion for the makeover: add a search capability which will not only search mod titles, but comments, etc. There are some mods (e.g., user groups) which have multiple files and titles ... which would benefit from consolidation. In the current format, unless a user is aware of the multiple entries, some of them could easily be overlooked.

Thanks Carefree. I know most of the sites many shortcomings. We (gary and I) were working on the search many years ago, but personal lives got in the way. Then progress halted.
Contemplating getting a ready made package to run it. But if none suits us, then see if we can make one using asp.net.
Since you're the #1 user of the site, will consult you on it when I'm ready.

OK. I'd offer to help code the search, but don't know enough .Net to be effective. My search functions for my video database do what they're supposed to do, but it's all in .ASP pages.

Unless I've missed something, it's still in Classic ASP. There was some discussion about re-building in .NET, but nothing's moved beyond the discussion/planning stage at this point in time.

I am playing with updating it to mvc, partly as an exercise to create a Snitz API for use by MOD writers for the MVC version, so watch this space

snitzbitz now all sorted and running as it should. I had to change the connection string in config asp to use sqloledb instead of {SQL Server}

I gave DNS a kick, looks like a nameserver IP change didn't propagate, hopefully it should sort itself out

IntoDNS shows nameservers not responding: https://intodns.com/snitzbitz.com OpenDNS reports server failure for all it's server world wide, trying to retrieve nameserver records for snitzbitz: https://cachecheck.opendns.com/
Funny enough, snitzbitz loads for me. Ip address shows 37.220.100.60 for snitzbitz.com.
HuwR
31 December 2016, 04:00

01 January 2017, 11:51
what can I do to make it works for me too?
HuwR
01 January 2017, 17:43
you could edit your windows hosts file and add an entry specifically for it
it's IP is 37.220.100.60
For Windows 10 and 8
1.Press the Windows key.
2.Type Notepad in the search field.
3.In the search results, right-click Notepad and select Run as administrator.
4.From Notepad, open the following file: c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts.
5.Make the necessary changes to the file.
6.Click File > Save to save your changes.
Add the following at the end of the file 37.220.100.60 www.snitzbitz.com

It's working for me. IntoDNS does seem to indicate some issues with the nameservers. DNSStuff couldn't provide a DNS report...
HuwR
06 January 2017, 06:01
not sure what's up, somewhere is caching the wrong IP addresses for the nameservers, odd thing is that they were changed several months ago, so not sure why it has started to go pear shaped recently.

I do not have any issues getting to SnitzBitz and just did a tracert from Melbourne, Australia. Maybe those having issues can do one to show where the issue maybe:
Open up a command prompt window and type: tracert www.snitzbitz.com

This might help in detecting which ISP's are still grabbing the wrong DNS. Just a thought.

Davio,
Could you try changing the primary nameserver to ns1.reddi-web.com

I changed it - domain name is registered by me, now.

ok, thanks rui. lets see if that makes any difference

rui, if you get an email from namecheap, could you follow the link and authorize.
free backup dns service, will add to there as well see if we can get this dns sorted out
HuwR
11 January 2017, 15:36
Actually, could you forward the email to me, I need to click the link
ruirib
12 January 2017, 08:48
Will do, but no mail so far, Huw.
HuwR
12 January 2017, 09:12
oh, will try a resend, should have received it, mine arrived within 5 mins.
I have also set up 2 new a records to point at dns, just waiting for those to propagate. Obviously something screwed up somewhere.
I did a check on 2 of my domains which both use the same nameservers, one works the other doesn't, when run through intodns, it returns a completely different IP addresses for the same nameserver records.
(one is a .co.uk the other a .com) the .co.uk works fine and returns the correct IP addresses for the NS records, the .com does not

12 January 2017, 13:41
Maybe you are using an old email address? Did you send it to the email address on my profile here?
HuwR
12 January 2017, 13:51
It is the one registered against the domain I presume, I picked it from a list so assume that is the case, unfortunately I can't enter an address manually
HuwR
12 January 2017, 13:53
I just resent one, and yes it is the same email as your email here
ruirib
13 January 2017, 04:59
Haven't received either. Can you try similar address but at domain outlook.com?
HuwR
13 January 2017, 06:03
unfortunately not. I will contact them and ask them to authorize it manually, however not sure if it is working, I pointed one of my other hardly used domains at there dns servers and it has now completely disappeared
the stupid thing is if I force a lookup on the root servers they seem to have the correct addresses and IP, it's blood odd.
