Java Security Issues
02 February 2013, 20:36
With the latest warnings about enabling Java or even having it on a computer, what are you guys doing and/or suggest doing?
I know I have software programs on my computer that require Java and unless I am mistaken the Chatnow I have on my website requires Java. Doesn't it? Doesn't all chat programs?
I do a lot of design graphics and I am continuously going to Google and doing an image search to get ideas, etc. and Google uses Java for this.
How should I advise my members?

advise them to get the latest version and not to visit websites they don't know.

I actually did just that, HuwR, as it was my understanding that the latest update included a patch for the security hole. Thank you!
Why is Homeland Security issuing warnings?
We have security issues all of the time with Windows and we're never told to stop using Windows like some are saying about Java, so I just couldn't understand their major concern like I am hearing.

Oracle have updated Java since that warning.
The latest versions of Java also allow you to disable the browser plugin from the java control panel

Yeah, Oracle has been bundling crap-ware with Java for some time, using spyware embedding techniques. They are busy ruining the reputation of Sun's product.

I removed java from my computer a few years now. But you could disable it in your browser and enable it only when you need it.
