Notifications gone wrong
08 April 2012, 14:38

In the past few weeks, I've had 2 emails from members saying they've received messages like:

XXX has posted to the YYYSITE Forum board that you requested notification on. Regarding the subject - ZZZZ . You can view the posting at SITEURL

though they haven't requested notifications on the topic stated.
Are Notifications stored in FORUM_SUBSCRIPTIONS, please ? If not where are they stored ?
Which script checks whether members have requested notification and how often does it run ? Is the check recurrence configurable ? Which script sends the notification email ?

Replies ...

Sorry, I forgot to say:
I'm using v3.4.06 with an Access 2000 database on a Windows host. The forum is at http://www.bordersfhs.org.uk/Forum/default.asp

yes, they are kept in forum_subscriptions, but as an admin you should have a link on the forum menu that allows you to manage them.
Most likely scenario is that they have subscribed to a forum and forgotten, have never heard of any cases where people got subscription emails by mistake.
The emails are triggered when someone posts in a forum that has subscriptions enabled.

HuwR,
Just a clarification please,
does
Subscribe to this board
mean subscribe to all topics in all forums and categories ?

yes, you probably don't want to enable whole board subscriptions smile

HuwR,
Thanks very much.
I'll reword it and then discuss it with the team.
