I'm interested in checking out the Google+ project, which is google's direct competition to facebook. http://www.google.com/+

At the moment, it is invite only. Hoping someone here can send me an invite, if they have any available. smile

That's what they put on the front page from the beginning. But persons have been getting invites from friends who are already in. At least, that's what my sources tell me.

By having this: "Already invited? We've temporarily exceeded our capacity. Please try again soon." Not a good start if they can not cope with the test users..

It does seem they have capped the number of users who are able to log in to the service at the same time, based on this news article: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2387896,00.asp

And they disabled the invite option from last night, due to the demand.
@David, space or server capacity is never a problem for Google. Probably they had google+ running on a few servers that could accommodate a limited amount of users for testing, but underestimated the interest. Whenever they are ready to open, I am sure they can slap together some more warehouses of servers to accommodate everyone. smile

I know it makes me sound stupid, but how do I send invites? I got in last week, but I can't find how to invite others. Anyhow, it looks like it's open at the time I sent this reply.

send me the email address you want me to send the invite to and I will send you one. It was accepting them yesterday as that is how I got one. I won't be able to sort it till tonight (UK time) as I am out most of the day.

Meant to get that hangout going but work got more than a little insane... amazing the frenzy that can get whipped up when inspection time comes around a hospital - especially when the inspectors can shut you down on the spot.
Given that we're in such vastly different time zones, what are some good times to try to get something like that going?

Just to comment that I really do not do any social networking (I have just a LinkedIn account that I don't use) and my trust in google is absolutely none. I just read that there has been a Google+ account deletion spree this weekend, on what is said to be a requirement failed by those that had their accounts deleted, to have people using their real names. Amazing requirement and it confirms my idea that google cannot be relied upon. This adds to episodes such as the recent announcement of no more google toolbar for Firefox, which probably will extend to IE, when the Chrome market share justifies it.
So I want none of the "do no evil, google style".

Huw, those were the addresses for the old, pre-Plus Google profiles and, as far as I know, everyone has one - try going to google.com/profiles/[username]

Shaggy's right - I had my profile set up that way before G+ was ever hinted at. I've noticed that the option to set/remove that option isn't visible any more, so I don't know if they just gave everyone the option or removed the option and its only the people who originally had it set up that can still use it that way.
