Never understood where the demand for a "New" England came from; were things not bad enough with the original?! <

So how come "Spain" is listed under your name? <

I lived in Spain & Andorra for a while some years ago. Seeing as Ireland didn't qualify for Euro 2008 I had to support someone.<

I have lived in every state in the US except for New Hampshire and Vermont; and in 34 different countries so far. Have visited quite a few more. Does that count?<

No, my father was in intelligence, then I spent 20 years in intelligence, now both of my children are following my footsteps.<

Guys, I am reading your "thoughtful" replies to this topic with some giggles... well, people across the "big" pond - it's almost July 4th. and the bean town is really gearing up for its gala celebration. Long time ago, at Boston Garden, there was a grafiti - "Our history starts here and ends here." so a cycle is going on. Well, Red Sox, NE Patriots and Celtics are making new history, though. You guys have a great July 4th - I mean guys on this side of a "pond"....<

There's no reason that people on the other side of the "pond" cannot or should not have a great 4th of July, also - they may not have the same reason to celebrate it, but I wish everyone a great day, every day.<

Never realised you were a coder, Mr. Bond Its my sisters birthday on the 4th. My Grandparents were delighted when she was born (they live in Connecticut).<

Well, you robbed St. Patrick's Day off us so I think it only fair that we thieve back a few holidays!

Robbed is such a strong word... how about "selectively held on to tradition"? There is some Irish in my family. <

I'm 100% mongrel, myself. We have Japanese, German, Irish, Hungarian gypsy, Mexican, etc.; in our immediate ancestry. To add to that goulasch, my daughter married a full-blooded Scot.<

Shirley/Ft.Devans isn't so far - approx 30~40 min drive on a good day, I assume - have to look up on a map where it is. Being a long time since I last lived here... AnnonJR - did you grew up around here or lived here for a while?
Everyone have a great 7/4th<

LOL Shag. Must be the New England date to prepare for Cinco de Mayo, but it's probably somebody's birthday somewhere.<

Considering that most of the early "settlers" were criminals (of dastardly crimes like being unemployed or just looking hungry) from England; maybe they wanted to wipe England clean and start from scratch?<

A little of both. I was 3 when we moved there, and I lived there until I was 14. Its been a long time since I've last been there. <

7/4th is not April 7th. It's July 4th! (7-4-08) America's Independence Day<

Only if you elect to put the month first. If you put the date first (as in most European and governmental applications), it's April 7th.<
