be careful when installing this, I am now back at IE6 since I had to uninstall IE7 beta and now IE7 RC1 just refuses to install<

I installed it last week and have since un-installed it. I've had beta 2 installed for a while and used it from time to time but it just annoys the hell out of me.
1. Why move the refresh & home buttons from the left to the right ? 2. Why don't new tabs open up with your home page (instead of about_blank) like they do in Firefox ? 3. Opening a new tab is slow compared to Firefox. <

2. is a setting in the options, you can tell it what to open too, or at least you could when I had it installed, plus my firefox allways opens as a blank window not my home page smile
anyway, its kind of mute since I can'tget it to install at all, am very annoyed, I actually like IE7 especially being able to open 4 home pages at once on start up<

Hmm...I installed it without a problem and I like it.
I didn't have the beta uninstalled first, so perhaps that's why it worked out OK. It just uninstalled the beta and installed itself. Took two reboots (one after the beta uninstall and one when done) but it went smoothly for me.<

don't know whats up with mine, the beta installed fine, and the uninstall went ok, but the RC1 is just a no go, have tried half a dozen times<

Is this way slow, or is it just my computer... Anyway, still lags a bit behind Maxthon :).<

Question then, since Maxthon seems to just wrap itself around the IE rendering engine, will Maxthon use IE7 when you upgrade?
Also, I was wondering about the IETab plug-in for FF... will that open up an IE7 tab once you upgrade?
Just some random thoughts while I work on the second cup of coffee. wink<

I think Maxthon uses the installed IE engine, so it should be using IE7 now.<

As far as I know, IETab embeds IE in a FF tab so it should be using whichever version of IE you have installed. Might be able to find more information here.

I was thinking it might too (on both counts), but since I didn't see anything definitive on either site I was just wondering if anybody knew for certain. Then again either group might not publish anything until IE7 actually ships (so to speak).<

I don't really know, but my experience with previous betas of IE 7 makes me think so. Maxthon seemed to "inherit" certain problems of the installed beta version, and curiously enough, some Maxthon settings seemed to be used by IE, as well. Of course, this could all be my eyes and mind failing miserably again and misleading me to think this actually happens tonguebigsmile.<

Well, stranger things have happened. bigsmile If I get a chance this weekend I'll fire up a copy of IE7 on a computer I was getting ready to re-image anyway and see how IETab fares.<

I like this. There's still some CSS issues (which will probably never be sorted) but overall, a vast improvement over IE6. To me, the tabbing seems better integrated than in Firefox.<

I did the same thing and I am experiencing the same exact problem. dead Do you by any chance have MS Visual Web Dev 2005 Express Installed ? No I didn't. I just rebooted my machine and started shutting down a bunch of non-essential services. After about 20 minutes of watching the installer, it eventually did install. I had a similar experience with a fresh install of XP on my kids machine. I waited for about 40 minutes before I was prompted with a message that I needed the latest Windows Updater file.<

Anything in particular, Mark, or just general "quirkiness"?

Well, tried about a dozen times (having to reboot inbetween each attempt) but still no joy, I'm really annoyed because I was getting to really like it, and now the beta won't re-install either, so am stuck with IE6 angry<

same here, I cannot get it to tinstall, says it installed but on reboot and all IE6 is still there and followed the same course of you, had the beta installed then uninstalled it back to 6 and now trying to go back to beta or the rc1 with no luck.<

General 'quirkiness'. I'm doing some designing in CSS right now and there's still a bunch of <!--[if IE ]><![endif]--> that are needed to get it looking correct. Mostly margin and padding issues. Why MS can't fix basic issues like this is anyone's guess.<

I haven't found any CSS issues with the sites I've built. However, I am noticing that my GMail account will not load up. Maybe just a temporary issue with GMail but figured I'd ask if anyone else is having difficulty loading up GMail with IE7.<

GMail works fine for me with IE7.<

Sounds to me like I'll stick with Maxthon.
Anyone played around with Vista yet?<

Well, I've only had that with Maxthon, not with IE7. bigsmile<

I will wait for the final version, no way I will install something from Microsoft that is not done yet.<

Like an operating system ? wink 2. things.
1. all you Microsoft bandwagon haters are really silly. 2. if no one tests the beta versions, it will never be released.
and remember, the bigger you become, the bigger the target. I don't want to turn this into a Microsoft versus anything debate but I don't have half the problems that people complain about because I am very security conscience as a whole. I guarantee you that if Opera or Firefox was as big as Internet Explorer, there would be more hacker kiddies out there attacking it. anyway, let me get off my soap box. this thread was about the release of IE7, not if you like the company or not.<

well said dayve smile,I can honestly say that in 20+ years of computing I have never had a virus/trojan or spyware infect my PC, and contrary to popular belief, firefox and linux and macs suffer from most of the buffer under/over run security problems that windows does, [gets down from soapbox ]<

IE7 is quite comfortable in many aspects, even with the sad fact that IE7 requires a lot of system resources for some reason for me. More memory usage saddens me infact and not displaying PNG colors correctly.
However, I think this is one of best improvements of IE.<

Hmmm. I find it's been taking less memory than the default FF 1.5 install. At least for me. It's not nearly the resource hog the first beta was.<

Eeeeasy now! Notice the wink I am running IE7 and have for a while, without any of the problems described above. Best browser ever from Microsoft. Took me a while to get use to, but now I can't go back. Numerous times I have closed the window instead of the tab bigsmile
A promising product all in all.<

Have they done away with their silly "friendly" HTTP error messages?

yes, that is allways one of the first things I do with IE, how the hell can it be friendly to not actually tell you what the error is smile<
AnonJr
28 September 2006, 13:18

I think they figure its more friendly to the people who don't know what the heck it is... though I've found that even then its not as big a help as they think because friendly or not the people who don't understand the "non-friendly" message usually end up calling someone who does understand - but can't do anything because the messages have been made "friendly" for their non-technical counterparts... just a random thought from too much coffee and not enough sleep. tongue<
