Cool. Last I'd heard it wasn't publicly available yet. I'll have to check it out.<

Just installed it at home, thanks for the tip! I love tabbed browsing. I wish it worked with W2K so I could install it at work too. :(<

Looks a lot like Firefox to me. tongue How's the stability, is anyone using it on there computer at the moment or is it too early?<

I have it installed. Seems pretty stable... but uses too much memory. And to be true, I like the new interface and such, but it still lacks a lot of functionality already available with Maxthon, while using a whole lot of more memory!<

but uses too much memory.
It seems browsers nowadays do use quite a bit of memory. Firefox uses up about 50 - 150 mb of my 256 mb memory, depending on how many tabs open, the type of content you viewing and how long you been using it.
Not sure about Opera though.<

Well I find 50-75MB too much for a browser. I compared Maxthon and IE with the same 3 or 4 tabs, and IE used 75 MB vs. 10 MB for Maxthon. And Maxthon is IE based... New IE interface is neat, and there is a feature that shows you kinda thumbnail of all your tabs, but that was the single advantage I saw over Maxthon (phishing filter was not working, but it won't be important to me, I won't be phished, ever tongue).
Surely it will be streamlined, but it will be a RAM eater...<

Which version IE you tested against rui? IE 7 or IE 6?<

I tested Maxthon vs. IE 7.<

downloaded and tested it, if you are using windows blind there's oddities and transparancy in it around the address bar and the buttons next to the tabbing, in normal windows without window blinds it looks fine.<

I downloaded it this afternoon and used it for a couple of hours.
Every time I tried to save a log-on for a site, it crashed. Other than that I really liked it. The look and feel is better, I liked the tabbed browsing, and pages seem to load a little quicker.<

Here's a weird little quirk using the MSWC.BrowserType server side object to detect browser type... IE7 reports back the following:

Platform: Netscape
Version: 4.00<

ROFL!!! That is hillarious. smile I posted that purely for some simple humor, not because I subscribe to the belief that people should use Firefox. I feel as if I am one of those dying breeds that still love Microsoft products, especially their browser. However, I am not that naive to understand that I need other browsers, especially for testing web site development, but Firefox and Opera have never enticed me enough to want to switch. I am actually quite happy that IE7 is out and in the past few days I have been using it, I like it.<

Not sure if I like IE7 yet. Tabbed browsing is a bit alien to me, it's so easy to just press ctrl+n and pop up an identical browser window.
Think I may have found some kind of bug. Was working offline on a page in XML last night, attached to an XSL stylesheet. Worked fine. Downloaded IE7 this morning and the exact same XML page brought up a "The system cannot locate the resource specified. Error processing resource 'file:///C:/Documents and Settings/..." message. Uploaded it to my server and it worked fine. question<

That website is just fuel between the childish IE and Firefox war.
I can't wait for this broswer to come out, I love the sleek look. I hope the finished version is out soon.<

I had exactly the same opinion when I first started using it, but you soon wonder what you did without them<

I would also agree. When I used Opera for testing web sites, I got distracted so much by the tabbed browsing that I actually modified the settings to turn off tabbed browsing. However, having used the Maxthon shell for IE for some time now, I've actually grown to like it. <

I'm not so sure I'd call "Browser War 2" (or whatever you want to call it) childish. Some of the participants, yes; the actual competition, no. Its good, technology-based competitions like this that help move the software forward.

As to the discussions related to using tabbed browsing, I love it. I used to have so many open windows it wasn't even funny. When I found the MyIE shell and FireFox I rejoiced. I still haven't had a chance to test out IE7 so I really can't say too much about it.<

I don't know whether it's because I have Maxthon configured for that, or whether because I'm using a Microsoft mouse, but middle clicking a link does open a new tab.<

I have a MS mouse too and it does nothing.<

I just checked at another computer where I have Maxthon installed too. Works the same way, that is, the middle click does it.<

Sites with a flash menu look a bit funny in IE7.<
