SnitzBitz.com Going Offline
14 January 2006, 06:13

I want to post this incase anyone would like to take over the hosting of snitzbitz.com. I am in the process of selling my web hosting business as my other online venture's require to much of my time. With this being said... when the sell of EZNetIdeas.com is complete SnitzBitz will go offline unless someone would like to do this following.
1. Pay the company that is buying EZNetIdeas for hosting of SnitzBitz
2. I can transfer SnitzBitz to someone and give them access to the data for them to take full control on their own hosting and hopefully improve Snitzbitz
3. If Snitz would like to start hosting the mod's then I would give it to them for sure over anyone else.
I am not trying to sell this at all so it will be someone's for FREE as long as you agree to pay for hosting and keep it going. If anyone is intrested please send me a email to bradw(@)eznetideas(.)com<

I can take it over to my server if you don't find anyone. Shouldn't be a problem keeping it up since my forum pays for itself and has been going for almost four years now. How much bandwidth is it using per month?<

redbrad0 ; same answer as -gary and baabashep ; I don't know how much space it takes, and how much bandwidth. Is it using SQL btw ?<

Keep snitzbitz alive.
Mail send Brad.<

Wow... this sucks... Now I am going to have to make a decision? wink
Stats Disk Space: 50 MB
Bandwidth: Not sure. My stats server is having issues right now but its not a bunch. I in the process of trying to fix that server so if I can I will post it.<

Ditto....lol. While new to the forum, Snitz is offering a *LOT* more support than the software that I've actually PURCHASED...and with all the muttered obscenities bleeding through into the posts/emails. The least I can do is give back. It wouldn't be hosted on my own server, although I would be willing to keep it up. Jon<

Hi, Brad

I've used your site and appreciated it. I can host it on my server.
I already host a forum for free, so I can host also SnitzBitz for free. But I don't understand what you mean when you say: Pay the company that is buying EZNetIdeas for hosting of SnitzBitz

How much is it to pay? Why?
I have plenty of gibabytes and bandwidth, so no problem about hosting it for free, but I can't pay for it.
Please give me some more info.

Has this been resolved yet? I'd hate to see it go.<

The domain has expired??? Ouch. If someone still has the code, please mail me, I'm VERY willing to host it on oxle.com.<

Still working for me...<

Okay, so this means the site is still up, but the domain details are expired. If I go there, it points to a GoDaddy parked domain name.
snitzbitz.com
Notice: This domain name expired on 07/17/06 and is pending renewal or deletion
This page is parked free, courtesy of GoDaddy.com
Seems like Brad has to extend the registration.<

Was the new home and all that ever resolved?<
Davio
23 July 2006, 09:18

Yes, the site was moved from redbrad's servers to the new owner.
But if it is expiring/expired, Brad would have gotten an email about it. I will contact Brad and see if we can get the domain back.<
MarcelG
23 July 2006, 10:10

Well, I could try to 'hijack' it, and grab it once it's free, just to make sure it's not lost to some adcompany...<

23 July 2006, 10:12

Do that Marcel. I can do it also, but it must be done ASAP...<

23 July 2006, 12:41

Where is it currently hosted? Are the mods currently available anywhere?<
Davio
23 July 2006, 16:54

It is hosted at Hosts of America. Brad said the company was going to take over the domain name, to continue hosting it. He will talk to them in the morning.<
MarcelG
24 July 2006, 02:14

So..we shouldn't try to hijack?<
Davio
24 July 2006, 07:23

Well, if the domain expired on the 17th, it has been a week for the host to acquire the domain name. So I am not sure they are serious or what. When I hear back from Brad, I will give you an update.<

I haven't heard from Brad since about Jan 17 (which was the catalyst for this thread).
I can't help thinking that Snitz is starting to fall apart. Snitzbitz (No.1 snitz mod site) is gone it seems, and no official replies to the growing requests from the community about the progress of v.4

sad<

Gee, thanks for lifting my spirits... tongue
I'm not so sure its as bleak as you put it. If it comes down to it, I'm sure the collective body here could re-constitute a library of most (if not all) of the MODs that were originally on SnitzBitz.
Also, while there doesn't seem to be much "official" progress on an "official" next version, MODs and small enhancements are added all the time by some very active members of the community. While I wouldn't want to fork the development, maybe those most concerned about the lack of progress should get together and come up with a "suggested 3.6.0" or something and submit it to the Dev team?<

why would you think that? what has the SnitzBitz or the lack of it got to do with Snitz ?
The only thing wrong with Snitz is the members ability to moan about everything and yet be conspicuosly absent when we want anyone to do something to help, maybe you should all channel your negative enegry into something constructive and volunteer to be dev team members, then maybe something will happen<

Maybe because not all of us are programmers, Huw. Though, if you want testers, then I'm willing to put myself forward. Also, a Dev Team was gathered a while back, how are we to know that the team is needing members when we don't get any information?
What is wrong with members asking about the situation with v4? Are we not allowed to be a bit put out (sorry, "moan") when after asking for months for some news as to its progress, we get "we have no news"? It's particularly depressing when you realise that members of the Dev Team itself don't actually know what's going on. (reference to Classicmotorcycling's post in the dev topic)

Couldn't we set up some kind of Snitz v4 Dev blog that the Dev Team could post to whenever they liked and members could add comments? I'm sure the Dev Team and members alike would see that as a positive step.<

24 July 2006, 12:41

thats what the dev team forums are for, if the dev team don't post in them there isn't a lot I can do about it either<

MarkJH, I do not know what you mean by the following comment:

And if you read the whole topic, there are people asking for this MOD, and that MOD added to the base code, so I don't think anyone knows what needs to be done in the next version, including me that will be beneficial to all users and not just for their own needs when you read the thread.
I know I would not like to be waiting for people to come up with the final list of what needs to be added, but it needs to be a community decision rather than mine or just a few from the development team. shock
As for the topic at hand, lets hope that SnitzBitz comes back online soon. I am sure I got most of the MODS downloaded from there, plus some old ones that where removed. bigsmile<

My guess is that some of you already have got this domain name on backorder? As no one has heard back from Brad my guess is getting snitzbitz's data will be a challange. I sure hope this works out and hope this stays on subject so the real topic here is not lost. It seems there are more than enough people willing to take this move on.
If I can do anything to help please let me know.<

I guess the immediate question is how long do we wait before we put together some sort of temporary fix? And what sort of temporary fix do we put in place if it becomes needed?
We have new people coming all the time and they will be looking for the MODs, so where do we point them (until this gets resolved)?<

Rubbish ! I've offerred to host snitzbitz at the start of this thread, I've offerred to be on the Dev team for years, I've offerred to write documentation before as well. All these have been ignored or I get a "I'll get back to you" response. I'm not saying I'm always the best candidate for any position, and there are other life priorities that slow things down sometimes but little things like a domain renewal tongue Myself and probably at least another 10 people here can fork out for the domain at cost price, throw AdSense on the site for a month and get the money back - if we even bothered to be reimbursed.

Guys I think it's time for everyone to chill out for a sec and reassess what's happening. B4 going into verbal diarrhea and accusations over little things, the base of the matter is that snitzbitz is a very valuable asset to snitz. More for what it represents than just a library of code. Snitz will not crumble just because SB is down but it doesn't help either. On the other hand I know that heaps of people here including my self would gladly host the site for free for as long as it takes. I mean isn't that what most of us do for living ? So lets get the domain back or register a new one so we can all start uploading what we have and get back to normal. So<

I read "Please let me know what needs to be done.." and "I want to do a little more to help with the code of Snitz." to mean that you did not know what was going on with the development of the Snitz v4 code. Seeing as we were waiting on a comment from the dev leader as to the status of v4, you can maybe see how I misread it. My apologies.
Thanks for getting SnitzBitz back up, Brad. smile<

Nice Brad, I think you saved a lot of panic here (well for me). My one question is "is it going to be hosted where it is at or does someone still need to step up"? I do not have the means to do so but there are many people willing to help.
Again thank you for getting it back up!<

It was only the domain name that expired. It is already being hosted at Hosts Of America (can google them if you want). Seems like one of the members here is part of that hosting company.
So hosting is taken care of. If hosting is a problem again, will let you guys know.<

Just an idea.. what about creating some SnitzBitz country located such as italian, deutsch, spanish etc. etc. hosting mods in that languages, but with a similar structure so if one site has some trouble he can move files to another site location, to avoid lost of such a great mess of data?<

Just to let you guys know, that the host has allowed me to oversee the SnitzBitz.com site. So if you guys have any problems with the site, you know who to contact. wink<
