Just curious, was there a reason you write the data to a log file instead of to a new table in the db? Is it faster this way? Will the constant logging slow the forum down?<

I set this up according to the instructions six hours ago and get nothing in the log file.sad
The only thin I did different is not to use the members.asp file you provided. I don't want Moderators accessing others IP address. Could this be the reason?<

This sounds like a very useful mod, exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunatly, the download link is broken. I just receive a message that tripod.ca has been closed. Where can I download this mod? Thanks.<

I am glad you chose to use a separate database for this. I was working on someone else's forum and they had the IP Gate MOD installed which has an option to log all page access. That logging resulted in over 50MB worth of logs in just a few days time. Had to turn off the logging to keep the database from growing so large.<

I did a simple test with some pseudo codes I wrote on my own machine with me as the only visitor, db version uses half time in comparison with the fso one.
btw, here my government requires such a log and a site needs to keep it for 60 days.
if I use sql server, does it matter if I use a seperate database or a seperate table?<

Hello:

Does this mod Collect not only the Usernames but their Password Too?
I know that this is Frowned on, But if I had a Dollar for everytime a Member Contacts me wanting their Password, I would be a Millionair.
Very Few go to the Forget Password Link, Most all members contact me I have to give them a canned Walk through & probably 25% or More Get Frustrated & Don't come back or they just come back & read only.
Most of these are New to the Internet, Aol Users & trying to explain how to Copy & Paste the Confirmation URL in the Browser to Activate their account Password is Like try to teach my Dog Roscoe how to talk!
If I could get the Majority of the Active Users Passwords I would Disable the sha256 encryption. This would make my life a lot Easier, because then I could just send them the password! This is the only part of 3.3 that I misssmile
Thank You for all Your Efforts!<

Havoc I was able to get the mod installed I think, but when I go to the admin control panel I get the following message FORUM LOG FILE NOT FOUND!. I opened the database and is not updating either. I had a problem with servar.asp and I was only able to get into the admin panel when I did not upload the servar.asp. After I got into the admin panel I uploaded the file and I was able to set the Database path, and the only error I get is that the FORUM LOG FILE NOT FOUND!

Havvoc, I am still getting the same problem with the FORUM LOG FILE NOT FOUND! I do believe it has to do with the path to the Database. I am not too familiar with the .mappath method. In config.asp my db is located at D:\websites\username\fam\db\. I tried that path and now all I get is:

Server.MapPath() error 'ASP 0172 : 80004005'

Invalid Path

/forum/inc_locate.asp, line 378

The Path parameter for the MapPath method must be a virtual path. A physical path was used.

I am not sure if that is a bug or not, I get the error no matter what I put, I wasnt getting the error just FORUM LOG FILE NOT FOUND! until I tried to put the physical path to the db. I hope that makes sense.<

Got a question. I had your orginal loger installed on my forum. When i updated to your latest version i get this error.
ADODB.Recordset error '800a0bb9'
Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another.

/nyjs/forum/admin_config_forumlog.asp, line 173

do you have a clue what is causing this, or should i remove this mod and start all over again?<

Another update ForumLog34db2.2
I think all the bugs are worked out of this now and I
implemented bjlt's suggestion for a compact database
feature. I changed all the connection strings to
MS Access 2000 strings and fixed all the pages that
didn't show up correctly. This should be the last update
Thanks to those who gave input, it was much appriciated

I have tested this one on 2 different sites and it seems
to be working well.
Forum Log 3.4db ver.2.2

When I followed this link Norton sent out a virus alert JS.Exception.Exploit. Plus, I doubt I was at your pages, but I found myself at a site with what I think was Russian or some similar alphabet.

the log is great but it has caused a problem with my active users mod. Active users now seems to show all users as viewing the active users page and uses the links and colors like in the forum log. Have you seen this before?<
hmmm
25 January 2003, 15:24

I am using active users 4.17 from nathan bales. My snitz is 3.4.03.
I put up a text version of my inc_header at

http://www.cougarsden.org/inc_header.txt

my active users was working perfectly until I installed the forumlog. Now its show veiwing:Active Users as the current page for everyone, even guests.
I posted some other questions at your test site. but we can worry about those after looking at this one. I really appreciate the help.

I think that did it. What exactly did you change?<

26 January 2003, 17:37

I really like the forum log. I Appreciate your work. I do have a couple of other questions or maybe they are just additional feature for the future. I was wondering if there was a way to break the log away onto its own page and not attached to the configuration that way we could link to just the log from somewhere else. I was also thinking it might be nice to ignor the accesses by certain IPs so that all the admin stuff wouldn't be logged. We don't really care where we go. I am slowly learning asp and will be looking at way to accomplish these things. But if you know of a way already or are working on it that would be great.
Thanks Again<

One more possible bug. When you clear the log the file size stays the same. I cleared the log then downloaded and opened the database. Before clearing the DB was 532k with about 2000 records in it. after clearing the records were gone but the DB was still 532 and grew from there with new record as if the records get deleted the filesize still increments without reseting.
Any Ideas?<
hmmm
27 January 2003, 21:36

Thanks, that explains it for the DB size. I will try out the new inc_locate.asp and let you know how it goes.<
