Ok, here is the idea...
there should be an anchor written via asp within the reply html display... so along with the basic message data (ie. body, poster, date etc...) there should also be anchor with the message id for its identifer.
This way not only could you target a topic with a link.... but you could actually target a specific reply within a topic

I've done this on my forum, but I'm having some trouble with the paging. i.e. if the targetted message is on page 2 of the message list, it only goes to the top of page one. I can't figure out why, either.

Oh yeah.. I forgot about the paging thing...
however... since each page is dynamically created once you click on the page you wish to view... the anchor should still work...
