well u could also hunt down the spyware thats slowing everything down? coudl take some time and may not actuall help much.
i say backup and format :-) make sure u scan with alot of stuff when u get it back up n running |

Yeah, but the problem becomes one of trust - even if you remove the spyware/virus itself, your system may have allowed other malware in (it's quite common for one virus/whatever to open the doors to others), and your registry is probably so full of crap anyway that a flatten and rebuild is always a serious option whenever you get any kind of infection.
Think of a computer with a virus/malware as a cheating partner - you can try sitting it out together and slowly patch things up, but your trust is blown, you'll always be wondering if there's still *something*... |

All the good stuff will rootkit itself anyway, so you'll never find it - the flatten and rebuild is usually cheaper once you factor time into the equation - a few hours to get the machine back in peak form, or a few hours chasing something which may or may not be present, but still gives you grief! |
