Art,
that likely means your server is configured to allow just Windows Authentication, while it should be configured for both Windows and SQL Server Authentication.
By right clicking the server in Management Studio and choosing Properties and then Security, you can set it to use both authentication methods. |

Thanks all. I can get in to the data base again  A couple other problems have shown up though. the mods i added don't work. When I try to make a change to the poll mod. it wont' keep the changes. Same with the PM manager. |

Well, I did it with ruirib's help. It's that darn button under the top level security tab "windows and SQL authenitcation" that hozed me up. Getting the login and user set up properly after that was simple. Thanks you guys! It's great to have friends! Know I know what it's like when a noob gets put on the right trail and feels success. Longtime developer, longtime mentor, first time receiver of advice! I AM going to write that tutorial.
Anything special I should know about upgrading form 3.1.4 to 3.4? Just backup, then unzip the files and get tweaking right? |

Further info... The three mods I added to this forum don't work. Or better put, they are turned off and when I try to turn them on the settings reset back to off when I go back and check. The mods that are effected are Poll mod, PM mod, and Avatar mod. Another piece of the puzzle is when I first logged in to the forum, I had to reenter all the Main Forum Configuration info. I found the strange. but after entering it I had no problems using the basic forum. It wasn't until later that I discovered that the three mods where not working. 
Is that like going into design table, set the identity property to yes? I have done that in the old sql2000, but couldn't figure out how to do it in the new version. Or am I going in the wrong direction?

I created the data base 2 years ago. Then moved it from the old server SQL2000 to the new server SQL2005. (dismounted and copied, then attached it.) I haven't run setup.asp, other than to make sure I had access to the database. In other words I didn't create the data base again with the mods.
Just wondering, should i have created a new database and imported the data into it some how? |

| No. It's kind of funny, if it wasn't so tragic... I can go into administration and set poll configuration to on. Then submit it. It says congratulations. then when i go back into check it's exactly the way it was. turned off. |

| Using SQL Server Management Studio you could go into FORUM_CONFIG_NEW and set those values manually. It's not a DB related thing. Those app variables not updating scenario shows once in a while, for some of the variables, and changing the values back in the database or using a dbs script fixes does the trick. |

wow, this is way beyond anything I have ever tried... I found the table, I right mouse clicked it, selected open table. After that I am not sure what I am looking for. Or am i on the wrong trail. (PM, avatar, Polls dont work.)

I went back to the original server and printed up the table and compared it with the new server. Making about a half dozen changes, now it works fine... I think hehe.
I just have a couple others to do, hope they go better than the last one. I picked this site because it gets limited traffic.
