I'm having problems with registration emails not being sent out. Due to the amount of fake accounts signing up and spamming our forums, I've re-enabled registration emails but now I end up with stacks of valid users stuck in the Pending queue! We had problems with this in the past so I disabled the option, but I'd put it down to our host at the time. We are now on a new host so I thought it might work this time.
I tried creating a couple of test users with some spare email accounts I have and nothing comes through for them. Snitz shows the page to say registration is complete and the email has been sent, but no error messages. The systems config is as follows:
Snitz 3.4.03 Windows 2003 Access 2000 CDOSYS Mail server requires registration and I've edited inc_mail.asp to include a valid user/password.
I've even tried a "Check Installation" to reload all the application variables and make sure CDOSYS is being used.
The frustrating thing is that I've got another script on the site that uses CDOSYS, uses exactly the same authentication details and mail server and that script works! It's just Snitz that doesn't.
Tearing my hair out (metaphorically, as there's none left already) with this one. Everything looks like it should work, but it doesn't. |

I wouldn't see a reason for the Snitz CDOSYS code to fail when other code works. I'd say you can try replacing the CDOSYS Snitz code in inc_mail.asp by the one in the script that works and see if it helps... |

Hi Marshal, I've already changed that line to use the value 1 instead of cdoBasic and I've also added a line to define port 25 as the one to be used.
Off bargain hunting in the sales to get a new laser printer, (fed up replacing injet cartirdges!!!) so will sort this this afternoon. Any other suggestions in the meantime gratefully accepted! |

Marshal, I owe you a virtual drink or 10!!!
I noticed my other script that works had the timeout set to 60 and so as per your suggestion appended that line to inc_mail.asp. Just tried creating a new user and hey presto! A mail arrived in my inbox.
I guess that explains why forum emails were always so hit-and-miss in the past, sometimes the timeout would be sufficient but at high traffic times, it was too short.
So, many many thanks for that!! It' should get the users off my back for now. |

well, in part it is due to your host having an overcrowded server |
