Hi guys,

We have been running our forum since 2001, with hardly any problems, other than modules/add-ons, but I have been able to either get help with them or fix them myself.

Now however, there is a serious problem and my forum is down.

I would like to get it back up and in operation, so I am hoping someone can help. I searched through the archives/search engine and really couldn't find anything that would help me.

Here is the error and the URL:

http://www.railroadforum.com/forum

Error Type:
Microsoft JET Database Engine (0x80004005)
Operation must use an updateable query.
/forum/inc_func_common.asp, line 668

We have been using Access for the database since we started, and were going to switch it over to SQL later this year. I am hoping it has nothing to do with using Access.

The line #668 references to this line in the inc_func_common.asp file here:

my_conn.Execute (strSql),,adCmdText + adExecuteNoRecords

I can send anyone that file who is willing to help.

I would like to get this up and running as soon as possible. We have been down since yesterday afternoon.

Thanks guys.

Please visit search.asp and use 'Operation must use an updateable query' as the expression to search for. You will find a lot of answers.

Ok,
So after reading and searching, I am to understand that this is a permissions problem?

This would require the admin to be sitting at the server, and logged into the IIS software right?

Well, that is in Canada and I am in IL. So I guess I would have to contact the ISP for that, since IIS is on their end and not mine.

Ok, thanks.

Indeed, this is a permissions problem. For it to have happened all of a sudden, something must have been changed at the server. Anyway, it is indeed for your host to set read/write permissions on your database file and folder, for the anonymous internet user.
