I was going to do a search and when I went to change "Search Forum" option, the "All Forums" option wasn't an option.

I thought it was always an option?

Or I could simply be confused.

I noticed this had changed as well - is it to stop timeouts?

It's been taken away since that was the biggest cause of the timeouts on searches.

Guess y'all will have to be a little more particular on your searches

Ah, c'mon.

If I knew what forum the answer was in, then...

How about enabling it for people who have more than 100 posts or who's real names are Dave?

That's fine tho'. If it was affecting performance, then that's understandable.

Couldn't it be set up so you couldnt search archived posts all forums, but you can search the non archived posts. I didn't get a timeout when I did that.. just a thought to help people out

I think the best thing would be to have another search page that worked

Why not make an SQL-optimized search page and supply it in the tools.zip file? The only people who would need to use a search.asp that works "better" than the current one when it comes to large databases use an SQL database, because Access databases will give up before it would get that far, right?

I agree Huw, a search page that is faster and more accurate is what is needed.

you can use: Search by Category

And narrow your search to specific categories...

I think that's a good compromise.

Is this forum running on an Access database? Mine has just been upgraded from Access to SQL and the difference in speed generally and search in particular is tremendous.

It's running on SQL server. The search is only a dog and timesout IF they try to search all forums. Any other time it's fine...

Well I'd tend to be slow too searching through 300,000 + posts for keywords.
